    Build suggestions

I'd suggest rockers/sliders before a winch and bumper. Both my wk's have suffered some lower body damage that could have been extremely easily prevented if my current 4xguard rockers had been in place when the damage occurred. One dent was just a broken tree branch that got kicked up at an odd...

Tell Me Why I Shouldn't Buy a WK CRD!

The issue with the merc engine can be slightly more than minor seepage... I'm sure you realise that the same basic problem can have radically different consequences depending on engine package design specifics. While being a simple issue, the way the problem with this particular engine...

Tell Me Why I Shouldn't Buy a WK CRD!

Another thing to keep an eye out for is affectionately known as "black death" on these Mercedes OM642 engines. (Google it for scary pics!) You won't be able to see it unless you pull the engine cover and foam sound dampers... But you might smell diesel fumes if it's present. All it really is, is...

5 tire rotation chart or method

The rotation pattern is also different depending on carcass construction (bias ply vs radial) and some tread patterns. At least it used to be. I haven't paid attention to bias for years.

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Made myself a better place to sleep within my Heap! And while I'm not going to be keeping this wood platform, I'm glad this "proof of concept" aux battery setup will work like I wanted.

    Volkswagen Vanagon 4x4 Conversion.

I believe that if you can reverse the rotation through the transfer case, you could avoid all the diff flipping and subaru trans reversing stuff. I saw an aftermarket unit that could do that... But just skimming what you wrote about your rover case, it might be possible to do it with that too...

    New WK owner (Build thread?)

Welcome to the club! I also run the moog uca's. I currently run the ome MD's in the rear and did notice they are stiffer than stock. So your choice will depend on your loading. I'll be getting the ome MD fronts when I start building my skid setup. I currently use a stock spring with the...

WH (WK) Preparation for the Pyrenees

I decided awhile back against a chainsaw. For me, it was too much space, weight, and complexity to be relied on in an emergency. And also, because I'm an old school guy who grew up chopping wood for heating a home. But like everything else, not all cutting/chopping tools are created equal. my...

Big Bend Trip - Lifted ZJ or stock WJ???

My Goodyear wrangler all terrain adventures are quiet as a church mouse and haven't let me down yet on the trails. Haven't played in mucky mud yet though.

My Jeep FC170 (Forward Control) "Patina Rod" project

My buddy has bought some morse cables from this company, http://www.midwestcontrol.com and liked them. I haven't had a need yet. One of these days I may join your FC fun! I have my eye on one right now. :)

    6x6 > 4x4?

Remember that adding an axle may also require higher registration fees. The mini truck crowd found that out during that fad. A three axle vehicle is considered a heavy truck, no matter how light it was, and carried the same fee structures as big rigs. Granted, this was how the police attacked...

My Jeep FC170 (Forward Control) "Patina Rod" project

A dash mounted shifter would look great! You should be able to find morse cable suppliers pretty easily, once you determine the length you need. I've worked with vw powered sand rails that sometime used 120"-ers, and the shop I worked in even carried 144" inch for the mid engined four seat type...

Installing Aux Battery (Lifeline AGM) Inside Cab of Vehicle???

Many OEM's are putting the battery in the enclosed areas of vehicles these days. But if you look closely, they all vent to the outside of the vehicle. On every one I've replaced so far, there's a small vent hole on the battery at reach end of the top casing. All it takes is a small 1/8" - 3/6"...

    Don't burn your truck down!

Let's see if this link works... This is a shining example of thermal runaway. This fuse still passes current, and is not blown, but you certainly can see the heat that it has been creating. I just recently replaced another runaway case, where the spade connector 'crimp-to-wire interface' was...

    Don't burn your truck down!

Also make sure your connections are clean, and have good contact pressure. There is another way electrical connections fail, called "thermal runaway". This happens when the resistance of a connection or component goes up, due to corrosion, contamination or just being a bit loose. Resistance...

Not very many Grand Cherokee WK's??

Yep! That was his first time out wheeling, and his shoe choice was biting him all weekend. I can't count the number of times he was slipping and sliding! He enjoyed his rides in the wk though. Totally gobsmacked at some of the obstacles we drove through.

Not very many Grand Cherokee WK's??

New member here, and I thought I'd add to the thread. I took this pic in California, near Bald Mountain. The only build up so far is Bilstein 5100 front shocks (at the lowest setting), and a set of 31.5" Goodyears.
