    1990 Montero V8 project

@z168 On this one I did scrap the 4WD to make the v8 swap easier, the '98 got special treatment and still has it's Super Select 4WD behind the 5 speed auto. This truck I don't plan on keeping, it's mostly for fun and to hopefully recoup some money from my last swap because I bought a lot of...

    1990 Montero V8 project

@CharlieNorth that's what I was looking at, I don't have access to a TIG outside of work and I'm not allowed to work on personal projects at the shop. So it needs to mostly work as is, I might be able to sneak it in for something quick if absolutely necessary. The rad I found is a universal...

    1990 Montero V8 project

Butchered up an SC400, Gen 2 Montero and Gen 1 Montero fuel pump hanger assembly to make another returnless system for this truck similar to what I did on the '98.

    1990 Montero V8 project

Got the intake plumbing done and I finished the exhaust! Here's a few more pictures of the core support and engine mounting. I've got to make a driveshaft, plumb the fuel, hook up the throttle cable and figure out the mechanicals for the shifter setup next. The big ticket is the radiator, the...

    The old 1999 build thread

Working on cropping the fenders to clear 40's just in case, doing them proper this time. I started by drilling holes aligned with the stock mudflap holes spaced at each angle on the fender then folded them over and welded all the seams. Looks nice enough for a wheeler. Still have to do the other...

    The old 1999 build thread

Replaced all 5 doors and fenders, pulled more dents pulled too! (I've since re-added some dents out wheeling already)

    Toasty's '98 Montero Build

Sent the truck off to have the wiring and electronics finished a couple weeks ago! Hopefully I'll have it back before the end of the year, I've been waiting a long time to get my rig into this shop. Once I get it back I'll be rebuilding the suspension and axles, installing new tires and getting...

Lowest PSI off road on stock mitsu wheels

These are a pain in the ass, they do work but the juice isn't worth the squeeze. One thing is that tire shops will hate you, most won't even touch them so consider that if you're away from your personal tire machine or your local shop that likes you and/or specializes in these. The other thing...

Lowest PSI off road on stock mitsu wheels

I like 8psi in snow, general trail use I do 10-12psi. 33x10.5's on the stock wheels should be good for any psi you want to run, especially if the tires have been mounted for a year or so.

    Gen 3 to Gen 2.5

I loved my Gen 3, I'd own one again but the Gen 2 is a lot more universal (parts interchangeability) and the options are far greater than the Gen 3 especially if you're in for the long haul or plan on wheeling really hard.

So you want to Fuel Inject your Carbureted Gen1 Montero (Or really any carbureted car)

Jamie can confirm but I believe you need an additional module and possibly some MSD part or a Starion igniter box.

    Toasty's '98 Montero Build

I will, I haven't been working on it much lately. Been occupied with my '99 and '90, the '98 doesn't actually run yet. It still has some wiring left to do, Ignition, ABS and some lights. It sucks to be stalled on minor details I know but I'm not willing to take any short cuts, which reminds me...

I unbolted mine from the body side but that's it. They are tight though.

B-line makes some if you want good quality stuff, if you want cheap you can buy a rubber line for any of the leaf sprung Monteros or pickups it's longer. https://blineperformance.com/ https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/DC/7034-05744469.html

Pajero/Montero NL Blister Fender gen 2.5 Shock Absorber discussion

I ran those 5156's before and they were really nice. I'm no shock expert and honestly once you get custom valved shocks even at the low end of the price spectrum everything over the counter becomes about the same. The most bang for your buck is going to be whatever you get a deal on.

The 12mm studs will work but the bottom you'll need to remove the sleeve and install a locknut so you don't have to over torque and crush the eyelet. Or replace the bushing and install a 16mm sleeve. As for valving, stock is 463/269 on a non adjustable suspension Montero, the softest setting on...

Pajero/Montero NL Blister Fender gen 2.5 Shock Absorber discussion

You can get better shocks now but back in the day before we figured ogetut how to get properly valved longer shocks for a Montero we used these Bilsteins for a Ford. They're really under dampened for a Montero on the highway but they're really good off-road. Be sure to add coil retainers and/or...

If you want 42's or bigger you're probably going to want 20's anyway right?

Yeah, these low pro tires are probably rubbish offroad plus a lowered 4wd just doesn't seem right. I still feel like I can out "Overland" just about anyone in the scene with a slammed Montero.

Preparing the engine for installation, I remembered from the last UZ swap that a bracket on the driver header was super close to the steering shaft so I cut it off before installing this time. Dropping in the complete drivetrain all at once, really nice to be able to do this. With the...
