    Sway Bar choice

I decided to change the rear bar mount . It has taken a while to get into this as winter is intruding and I am over laying under the truck in the frost (too old) :(. This weekend I have moved the sway bar mounts on my cross member aft by 40mm , then made new links to suit. Effectively...

    Sway Bar choice

I've changed the soft rubber bushes for urethane , the difference is small but noticeable , it's getting better . However ........ I have now noticed an interesting handling effect . The truck is definitely twitchier, that is , more sensitive in a general driving condition , and wants to...

Thanks for your reply Retired Tanker , I have been looking at that and wondering how much difference urethane would make.

    Sway Bar choice

So I made the new chassis mount and links , and was dismayed at the small improvement when I rocked the truck by hand, VERY small ! I thought I had wasted my time . However , I needed to go out , so I took the truck. It seems that the 31mm bar has a little give , then goes really hard , I...

    Campervan Rental Suggestions?

Please ensure your camper is certified self contained (CSC) it will have the blue label on the rear. This will save you a lot of grief from the freedom camping wardens (and their instant $200 fines) that many councils employ . https://www.nzmca.org.nz/freedom-camping/

    Sway Bar choice

Thanks for your reply , I've seen the Hellwig products and I understand they are good. However , cost plus exchange rate plus tax here makes their product very expensive. I can get a custom made bar here for 1/3 the money , I just need to decide what size to choose. The above formula has helped...

    Sway Bar choice

It turns out , google is my friend (again :) ) I found this simple formula , great for directly comparing different sizes , just what I wanted . I hope it might be of help to someone else . http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/Sway-Bar-Calculator.html

Side view mirrors mounted to the cab over?

I have mirrors on the cab over , they are tiny , but work ok compared to the truck originals , which don't have a wide enough view. When the camper is fully mounted , the mirrors are close together and I have had no bother with close quarters , really , if the miirror touches something , I feel...

    Sway Bar choice

I have a 25mm rear sway bar that has helped the truck stability LOTS over no bar . However , there is still too much movement for my comfort while driving . My question is how much bigger to go. Will 3mm increase be significant ? is there a formula I could apply ? Thoughts and experiences...

What did you do to your hard-sided truck camper recently?

I recently added some airtabs to the camper . 12 down each side and 16 across the top. I understand they are marketed as fuel saver , but I did not find that to work for me , instead , I find I am traveling down the road 5mph faster :) The major benefit I experience is improved stability, both...

    Tiny S&S custom

Yeah , that's really sweet , compact and light weight . I understand the limitations of a 1/2 ton , my pickup is at the limit with my wee camper , but while it's still fun , it's all good :)

    Moped travel NZ

Moped on state hwy 1 ?? suicide ! NZ drivers are generally not forgiving of slow 2 wheeled traffic. Your rights as a cyclist / motorcyclist are superseded by your right to die first , when you are sucked under the wheels of a logging truck. Good luck with your trip :)

What did you do to your hard-sided truck camper recently?

I found an old brass fire guard and cut it down and fitted it as a shield behind the gas cooker.

What kind of tyre do you like?

Yep, depends on vehicle and use , eg, I had 750 x 16 6ply and changed to 245. 75. 16 10ply , to aid stability. Works for me.

    Reinforcing corner jack brackets

What mallthus says , plus , you might like to consider some diagonal bracing. I have done this and the camper is very secure when on the jacks.
