Have you tried a 12V deep cycle SiO2 silicon Dioxide battery?

Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/recyclable-lifespan-discharge-temperature-durability/dp/B077W42CWW I have read claims that they can be regularly dischaged down to 20% SOC and can be charged in extreme cold without damage. I had been researching LifePO4 but dont like the cold charging...

Factory tie down bolts work temporarily to transpot popup?

FWC should have jack brackets so you can use the holes in them and throw a heavy tie down strap over the top, front and back. With tailgate off or down, use tailgate latch hooks to place another strap behind to keep camper from sliding back. For any space between the walls of the camper and...

    Which EV would you buy?

If I went the EV route I would install a propane heater. I once knew a guy with a VW bug who ski bummed and hot wired one to the ignition so when the car started he got an instant blast of nice hot air. The tank was in the front storage comparment and the exhaust was vented outside. I don't know...

    Which EV would you buy?

You gonna trust the manufacturer's data (and Elon Musk) over Car and Driver which did an actual driving test and posted the data? Do a web search for how much energy does the heater in an EV use? A gas car uses no additional gas to run the heater as there is plenty of heat available from the hot...

    Which EV would you buy?

The OP mentioned skiing. According to Car and Driver mag tests, in moderate winter temperatures with heater on high the Tesla heater consumes around 35% of the watts and up to 40% in really cold temperatures. So your range drops to around 200 miles and could be even less. Factor in...

2020 Ford Transit AWD Camper van $114,900

How come no propane system? With propane you could have a propane force air heater instead of the diesel heater which is very expensive with smelly exhaust. And you could also have a built-in stove instead of a portable and the inconvenience of having to get it out and attach portable fuel tank...

    porta toilets

I have been under the opposite impression, but really do not know, so do you have a reference to point to? I also have a luggable loo but what I do is treat #2 with "Poo Powder" from http://www.cleanwaste.com which the company claims quickly neutralizes it and has received EPA approval for...

Ford Ranger with a MOD. These things go like the clappers, cant tell the camper is there.

I do not get their pricing. $21k for 300 model with nothing but a mattress and electrical wiring. Camper choices! TopperEZlift or renovated pop-top or... ?

Mine is a 2016 Fleet and fits a 6 foot bed but have to remove tailgate and then it overhangs about 2-3 inches. some just put tailgate down. I guess I should not assume an older version has same dimensions, but I would be surprised if it is for a full size truck. Ask seller or call FWC in...

    hitch bike rack wobble

My hitch pin is not threaded; secured with a cotter pin and that is once source of wobble, which I hope a clamp type tightener should work.

    hitch bike rack wobble

Anyone used any of the devices designed to reduce wobble in receiver hitch devices such as my Yakima bike rack? I have wobble both up-down and side ways. Some devices are clamps, such as MaxxHaule and Blue Ox, others are square, rubbery inserts.

I doubt you can do too much to lighten it. There a differing opinions regarding being overweight, and mine is that I would not worry if you go as high as 500 lbs over payload, provided you drive carefully and don't try any hairy offroading. Load range D or E tires will handle the weight better...

shopping for off road camper can be confusing!

I would get a used RV trailer. All the RTTs and offroad trailers seem too small for a family of four and still require some of setup and rearranging of gear. And use of a latter which is a hazard for little kids -even for adults if not careful. And those kids will get big fast. An RV trailer...

Shell type pop-ups, who has em?

See my comment in the Hiatus thread: https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/hard-sided-pop-up-camper-by-hiatus-campers.210012/page-7#post-2760783 That side trap door style window is huge but doesn't look like it has a screen: I think the hinge would be in the way. Also doesn't look like...

    15L drink/lunch fridge freezers appearing

I have a 76 AH AGM battery. My 18 litre Indel B [aka Truckfridge] uses .25 volts overnight, based on my voltmeter, which is a rough estimate at best. But I have measured it many days over a three year period and get the same result. it is powered by solar and truck alternator when driving. I do...
