    Electric Chain Saw???

Since I had a Black and Decker weed trimmer for a few spots in the yard I went the the Black and Decker chainsaw probably 5 or more years ago, time flies. I already had the batteries and charger so I didn't want to get something different. The Stihl unit looks like a good deal. Since your only...

New Alu-cab Khaya Camper for sale in US - details with pricing now available

Since the full sized are still hopefully in the design stages...any feelings on changing out the heater? I realize that the standard Khaya is designed for the global market and with the fill sized one being spec'd for the US/NA market perhaps now is a good time to ask? I'm not really a fan of...

New Alu-cab Khaya Camper for sale in US - details with pricing now available

I've been thinking about that too. Even mount it a bit to the rear and put a spacer in front of it. It would allow a storage bin for 20# propane tanks, fire pit, firewood, who knows what else. My other thought was just a topper/canopy on the bed for when the Khaya isn't in the bed, that's why I...

New Alu-cab Khaya Camper for sale in US - details with pricing now available

Still in waiting for the Khaya's to grow up for the full sized trucks. Nothing really needs to be changed other than having them fit in the full sized trucks. If they were to be full sized...would a long bed or regular bed be a better choice for the Khaya 2.0???

New Alu-cab Khaya Camper for sale in US - details with pricing now available

Pro I think is the no glass windows. More secure, nothing to break. RTT's don't have glass windows. This is a RTT on an integrated storage unit which makes it great. Also no fiberglass or material left out in the elements. The aluminum skin is tough enough to withstand the usual elements that we...

Is mobile HF APRS feasible for an overlanding vehicle?

Yes and no. Not all RMS are linked via RF. The ones that are part of the hybrid network are. You would pick up to 3 stations that are in the hybrid network and they would be the one(s) that would hold your messages for pickup when you connect to them. That's a short answer on it, more can be...

    Midland USA Supports Expedition Portal

I purchased a MXT400 and had an issue with it on one of the local GMRS repeaters. Midland was great and paid for the shipping both ways to get the radio working correctly. Definitely a company to be supported as they support the forum.

    Rear Winch Wiring Opinions

I just zip-tied mine along the frame to the rear and didn't worry about it. 19 years later it is still hanging on and haven't had a problem. Off to knock on some wood.... Carl

    Upgrading my mobile radio

Good plan on the upgrade of the radio. You should be happy with it. It's a solid radio and a good antenna choice to boot. Much better than a HT and you won't need to worry about charging it.

AGM charging: battery-to-battery, shore charger, struggling on best approach

So here is what I did, I haven't seen smoke yet and it has been working fine so far... I have a National Luna PPP as a secondary power source with an Optima AGM battery in it. The PPP is linked to the vehicle battery to charge when I am on the go and can be used to jump the vehicle if needed...

Is mobile HF APRS feasible for an overlanding vehicle?

I do like the SCS Dragons. They aren't cheap but I have spent more on things I haven't used as much so for me I don't mind. I got the bluetooth option in them. So if you have a tablet or droid you can run aprs programs on the devices via BT to the Dragon. You can also run Winlink via the BT...

Is mobile HF APRS feasible for an overlanding vehicle?

APRS and Winlink both have advantages and disadvantages. APRS is more of a live/tactical reporting system. On 2M it is great to see where others are and how far out you may be from them. It is also good for short messages back and forth if both of you have message capability. Most times you will...

Is mobile HF APRS feasible for an overlanding vehicle?

The tracking while moving from APRS is not always a sure thing. If you want a "we arrived here at camp" to be guaranteed then your best bet would be winlink via HF. If you send the position report it will get posted and you will get a confirmation email back that your position was posted. You...

Is mobile HF APRS feasible for an overlanding vehicle?

I have been running HF APRS for a couple of years now both base and various mobiles. We could always use more base stations here in NA to improve coverage with the bands refuse to cooperate. Today I was able to pick up Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Canada and of course US...

    Which Garmin do you Recommend?

I've been happy with the RINO's. The FRS/GMRS radio is built in and works rather well. I have it wired in to the vehicles with the power/data cable. If I need to get out with the radio and or GPS I just unplug the unit and away I go. Been using them for years, from the 130 up to the current 755t...
