Bilstein 5160 remote reservoir shocks vs all others

Don’t get the fox 2.0, I got them from carli with their tune on them, they work great with my set up, but in hindsight I should have spent a couple hundred extra bucks on Kings which are rebuildable. Don't know about the Carli Fox 2.0s, but the Thuren-tuned Fox 2.0 remotes on my Power Wagon...

Bilstein 5160 remote reservoir shocks vs all others

I have 5100s on my GMC 1500 and used to have 5100s on my Power Wagon. Replaced the PW 5100s with Fox 2.0 remotes and there is a very real difference in performance. Time for new shocks on the GMC and I'm trying to decide what to use this time.

    known Power wagon issues

Here is the truck review that I mentioned. It was from Car and Driver, not Road & Track. Also a link to the CandD full test article on the Big 3...

    known Power wagon issues

no other factory vehicle sans the Rubicon can do what this big pig can. Rubicon can't do what the PW can do, because the Rubicon is not a truck. I bought my '08 Tundra from a buddy who wanted a Rubicon. He got the Rubicon and three years later he dumped it and went back to a new Tundra TuRD...

    known Power wagon issues

There is zero competition for a PW, unless you build it yourself. The RapTurd is not a real truck, so it does not count. Fun, though. The Hemi tick is separate from the exhaust leak. They all tick, but only a few crack their exhaust manifolds. My current GMC 5.7 Vortec has a cracked...

    known Power wagon issues

The biggest known issue is gas mileage, especially on the early ones. Everything else is pretty much a nit or a normal maintenance/wear item. You can always upgrade components on any truck, but the PW is pretty solid out of the box. Mine is 13 years old and the only unexpected repairs have...

    What is this connector called?

Try Fry's Electronics or whatever your local Radio Shack equivalent is. Radio Shack would have had a pile of them in a drawer. I miss them. In So Cal, try OrVac/MarVac/DuVac Electronics in Fullerton. They keep changing their name, but they have a store in Monrovia and their main store...

    Dual battery opinions

I just watched the Genesis video, and it does look like s slick and sanitary installation. Lots of convenience, but at a high price. I have an '08 Tundra and finding space for a second battery is a challenge. My short term solution is a Grp 31 in the stock position while I figure things out...

    97 Suburban 2500 454, bad torque converter?

Does "not running" mean the engine won't start, or just that the trans makes it not driveable? If they can't start it, you have other issues to worry about. Start it and listen to it. Does a code scan show anything?

    97 Suburban 2500 454, bad torque converter?

Seemed like the trans/TQ were acting up in my 98 GMC 350, often felt like truck was under load, trans hunting for gear, TQ not locking and unlocking as it should, wrong gear much of the time, needed full throttle to kick down, horrible gas mileage, etc. Cause turned out to be a bad mass air...

    Truck canopy

Watch this video and then find Andy's followup video on finishing. If you are planning to paint the shell (strongly advised), then you can make the repair strong and invisible. From what I can see, the best approach would be to remove the aluminum frame and cut the crack to clean things up and...

That age-old dilemma: Double down or fold?

Drive it three more years or until it drops, whichever comes first. Just today I dropped another $1K into my 98 Z71 truck with over 180M on the clock. Why? Because I'd rather beat this truck than one of my newer ones (they are not all that new, being a 2005 Power Wagon and a 2008 Tundra)...

Why you should not listen to the manufacturer's 'Filled for life' claim

Well, they wouldn't have to go through any of that process if the BMW had a turbo encabulator.

Single vs dual batteries, winching, house bank, and charging

The group 65 battery, according to Smittybuilt is enough, That info is probably not reliable if you have to do any serious winching. As an example, the 3G Power Wagons came from the factory with a 160amp alternator, Group 65 FLA battery, and an OEM-spec Warn winch that was nominally 12K but...

    Front Runner Wolf Packs

Really? Broke! Doomed to die like the Wally World budget containers? Mine are the same as the one marked "utensils" in the pic above. The bottom corners are pretty fragile, and that's where mine have broken. They load and stack more efficiently than most other plastic boxes, but I'm not sure...

    Front Runner Wolf Packs

I doubt that I will ever break a box. I bought six or eight of them a few years ago on a sale and several arrived broken. Drop one and it will break. Look at it funny and it may only crack.

How long of a cross bar can you go on a roof rack?

There is a reason that Yakima sells their heavy duty bars in only one length, 86". Use them at 86" or cut to whatever you need for your vehicle.

So what do the heavy guys use? Heavy enough?

Anyone running an awning with truck topper?

Tex68w makes a very good point. The good 270 awnings are both heavy and they do put a lot of strain on the mounting points. Fiberglass is probably not going to be happy. I have been running an EZ-Awn Bat 270 on the fiberglass Snug Top shell of my Power Wagon for about four years with no...

Weatherproof lightweight truck drawers. Bought or made what's out there?

Mine is 6 feet long by 2 feet wide by about 12" high, maybe 13". I made it a bit shorter than the bed so that I can put things like tool bags at the end of the bed before I close the tailgate. The slide is almost full length (probably 5 feet extension), so the whole drawer is easily...
