Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

I'm currently only using the fused bus bar for an aftermarket headlight bi-xenon hid relay. Future plans may include a daytime running light system and switched led lights for under hood illumination that would come on if the hood is up. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

The wiring project has been trouble free and has proven quite reliable. I have been meaning to make a schematic of the system, but honestly don't know how to make a proper diagram of the setup. I'd rather not present a Microsoft paint wiring diagram. If anyone has a simple and free program they...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Took care of a few small tasks this weekend. First up was the replacement of the alternator. I picked a high output 160 amp alternator from eBay, which has been sitting for a few weeks. Install was straight forward and I'll likely be adding an additional higher gauge hot wire in the future to...

    Fridge Slides

I've a set of Fulterer slides that lock both open and closed. I'm very happy with the quality and functionality. They were spendy, but the value seems positive from my experience so far. I know these aren't 'fridge slides' per se, but you could easily build a tray to contain/hold a fridge.

Time to start shopping for a new (to me) vehicle...looking for your thoughts/suggestions!

Montero is the best bang forthe buck you are going to get. They are very capable right out of the box. The 2003+ trim has a really good traction control system much like what you get with the newer 4Runners. Take a look at the video to see a stock '03 Montero tackle some terrain. Sent from my...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Well- vehicles been running pretty well since the repair and I've been putting on some miles commuting without further incident. That has been quite the relief. Before all of the issues began, I had started a drawer slide project. With the engine repair complete, I've been making some progress...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Thanks for the council- after cleaning things up- I was still unable to determine the root cause of the leak. After thinking about the issue and talking it over with family- and from members here, concluded the head gasket causing this issue would be really remote given the symptoms. As my...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Well- I'm now facing another issue that needs to be resolved. The car sprung an oil leak recently... Dropped a quart over 60-80 miles or so. Upon inspection out appears to be coming from the head gasket and not the freshly replaced valve cover gaskets. The car runs and drives great, but the oil...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Took care of a quick(ish) project today. The drivers side window regulator was getting tired and I set about top replace it. Few random pics of the project. Fuel level sensor is on the way and the next project.

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Went camping the other weekend over by South Fork Colorado. Ended up setting up camp at Poage Lake and used that as a home base for the long weekend. Many adventures were had in the area and these are just a hand full of the more scenic ones. The longest trip was with just the wife and I...

    Modest 2002 Montero Build

Finally tackled a few repair projects that were on the to do list. Install a new (used) valve cover, new solenoid pack for the transmission/transfer case and clean out the idle air control valve. Project went smoothly and I saw the cause of the large oil leak... The old valve cover was bent up...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Some other adjustments made to the brush guard to help with rigidity and to ensure light from the projectors won't get blocked/reflected. Next step is to find a shop to media blast and perhaps powder coat the assembly...

Not So Modest 2000 (Gen 2.5) Montero Build

Time for an update. Now that I've got some miles on the setup, figure it's time to comment on the build and overall direction. The suspension overall is fairly taught and honestly pretty comfortable. The bushings don't transmit to much of the harshness that I've come to expect from other poly...

    Roaming Lost: Montero Gen2.5 Build

The rig looks great! The wheel choice is prefect and really compliments the vehicle. Looking forward to the build!

A question about the cosmetic aspects of removing running boards on Gen 2.5

Welded holes shut and painted the car.

Yet another 3rd Gen Montero "Build", also story time!

Not something that can be converted. It holds the abs system as well as the vacuum booster. The system was made to allow consistent let foot braking while off road. No loss of vacuum will ever occur provided the system functions correctly.

    Modest 2002 Montero Build

No insurance claim on this vehicle- never had enough of a purchase price and NADA value to justify the additional expense of comprehensive coverage in my opinion. I'll have to pick up another set of vents and will be tig welding the assemblies to help stiffen the unit up. The spot welding on...

    No key!!!!

You may be able to save some money if you don't need the transponder unit. You wouldn't be able to turn the car on (assuming it runs), but should be able to roll it around.
