MB truck owners in North America - is it worth it?

I would think if you are staying in NA and you have no particular affinity for the old MB trucks, then getting the domestic truck would be the way to go. Put your time and energy into a nice Total Composites habitat instead of a classic car restoration 😉.

Vinyl flooring and Chinese diesel heaters

Sorry, no experience with the floor. I do have a diesel heater and I can't see how you could avoid diesel smell if the tank is inside. Even if you could bulletproof the piping/tank somehow, you would have to fill it at some point which is always less than perfect.

These trucks aren't for everyone. I can completely understand someone not wanting the extra work.

1990s MB truck owners. Looking for some details!!

Mine is a Unimog which you specifically do not want but, in my limited ownership experience of a vintage MB firetruck in the US, my opinion would be that if you are all about practicality, then this is not the way to go. I would only do it if you are interested in and including an (maybe large)...

Damaged James Baroud rooftop tent worth fix ?

Thanks for the detail. I am curious how the fiberglass mounted roof rack held up. I am thinking of getting an Evasion and want to mount crossbars and solar.

RTT entry through the cab roof

Howdy. I am looking at putting a box style tent on our cab as a bedroom of sorts. Something like an Airtop, Evasion XL, or Sparrow XL. I am wondering if anyone has experience or knows of any examples of modifying any of these tents (or really any RTT for that matter) so that it has an entry...

I would assume yours should have a tag like mine somewhere on the engine itself. I can't remember where mine is and too lazy to go look. But if you can't find it let me know.

Maybe this is it: https://webautocats.com/epc/mercedes/4/m/366978/28g/15/030/?chasis=67619856S I went through the menus for truck model: 676.198 but I don't know what engine you have. The only one available here was 366.978. There seem to be a few alternator options:

What horrible luck. Hope you have a long stretch without issue once these things are resolved. I believe this is the Merex he spoke of. They are in Germany: https://www.merex.de/ These knock-off EPC seem to come and go frequently. I have used this one before...

    unimog as work truck/adventure rig

This would probably carry your stuff: https://www.govplanet.com/for-sale/Emergency-Vehicles-1995-Teledyne-Continental-Motors-A%2FS32P-23-8x8-Fire-Truck-California/9403825?h=5000%2Ct%7C4996%2Cl2%7CUSA%2Csm%7C0%2Cmf%7C1&rr=1&hitprm=&pnLink=yes But seriously... unimog as work truck/adventure rig

Maybe a Mitsubishi Fuso? - not sure how those differ from the Isuzu. Full size pickups with slide in campers seem to be all rage today. You definitely have a lot of options for both and lots of support in the US. You could also do a flatbed. I guess you could look at surplus LMTV or HMMV if...

    unimog as work truck/adventure rig

Capability aside, I think practicality would be what kills you. You need that work truck to work every day. When the Unimog goes down (as any machine will) you will have no idea how long or expensive it will be to fix. There are no local shops to take it to or parts stores to buy from - unless...
