How to add a weep/drain hole?

My experience and suspicion tells me that you will never successfully keep water out of a tubular frame. I think that effort invested in the tube and trying to seal the frame are wasted. Better to drill big holes and know it can be washed out and painted occasionally. Currently owning a tube...

How to add a weep/drain hole?

I personally would drill the hole before welding the vertical on, but basically, yes, do what you described. Or: drill sideways at the bottom of the tube. And, set up the tube tube so that the outer sliding tube is up if possible…. But I would still use a weep hole.

They don’t want to do the job. There is no secret sauce in brake linings and anyone who does this work is familiar with the general risks. I would guess you aren’t finding SDS because they typically only apply to materials / chemicals and not finished parts. Re-lining brakes seems to be rare...

Tire Repair kits & Backwoods repairs

I do know a guy who stuffed a torn sidewall tire full of towels, sleeping bags, and laundry, then sewed it up with steel fishing leader using pliers and limped back to pavement. This was long before the days of cell phones, back when nothing cool happened if you remembered to bring a camera...

Tire Repair kits & Backwoods repairs

Big corporations are far more likely to be run by lawyers than engineers. “your tread will deteriorate” is just like saying “we can’t tell exactly when your brakes will fail but they aren’t new anymore”. I would guess that most independent shops would re-do the plug, patch the inside...

Tire Repair kits & Backwoods repairs

That was an awesome tool to look up. Something makes me think I won’t be able to avoid that one for long… it is calling me from my subconscious now!

Does anyone make a LifePO4 battery (>= 1,000 wh) with a better DC output connection?

Are you adding more solar? Also charging from alternator? I’m guessing you will run near the bottom third of capacity most of the time until a shore charge otherwise.

    Leaf Spring F-350 suspension help

If you broke a shackle, it is probably fair to say something is very wrong with the suspension design. Likely the shackles are too short and not letting the spring flatten far enough to actually absorb bumps. You might consider building a small frame to measure the spring rate and dimension...

Dumb question about a Goal Zero Lithium 500X and National Luna 50L Legacy Fridge/Freezer

I sort of agree, my first thought was also “add panel” however… I’m fairly certain that even starting from a full charge state you are really tight on the margin for making it through the night. Certainly for multiple nights / make it through the weekend, no matter how much panel you have...

Dumb question about a Goal Zero Lithium 500X and National Luna 50L Legacy Fridge/Freezer

It doesn’t sound “wrong” to think that would barely last the night. The spec I looked up claims that goal zero unit has 505 watt hours of capacity. Assume that is true, and you can use all of it (both VERY generous assumptions). If the readout is accurate, from sundown to sunup you are...

CVT Denali Mattress - Fresno, CA - Offer

Great point! I have the mat. It is now included with the “sale” of the mattress. I’ve never worried too much about condensation. I’ve experienced it in a few cold/winter nights but a quick towel swipe sorts it out. I do believe the carpet will address that issue too though.

    Well, poor Bronco...

This is the exact reason you are required to strap kayaks or surfboards to the top of cars in some regions!

CVT Denali Mattress - Fresno, CA - Offer

I think they call it the “summit series”? It’s the diamond plate aluminum floor. I’m not the original owner, so not certain. The 2 exped Mats fit tightly side by side and leave a few inches at either end for shoes and bags. I carpeted the floor to make the diamond plate a little easier on the...

    Alternative AC option

I was basically against it until I saw the girl turning it on… now I’m thinking… why not spend $1500 on a really small swamp cooler… she looked comfortable! Bear in mind they make their “low maintenance” claim based on “annual injection pump, return pump, and filter replacements”… how much do...

CVT Denali Mattress - Fresno, CA - Offer

I replaced the factory mattress in my CVT Denali with exped mats and I think the original can go now. Pickup only, Fresno CA, make me an offer. Anti-condensation mat is also included. I plan to accept offers in the relative range from 12-pack of barley soda to bottle of red grape juice. Not...

2014 JKUR - What is that Buzzing in the Dash?

So…. Probably not buzzing huh? I actually bought the service manual from Mopar Tech Support. I try to buy manuals for all of my vehicles, they typically only cost the equivalent of 1-2 dealer diagnostic visits, and I try to target 250k miles before replacing a vehicle, so they get used! I...
