Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

I loved mine, however they used to be $2-3k vehicles all over the place. Such is life these days it seems. I‘d overhaul the cooling system and plugs/wires/fuel pump. Otherwise it’s likely GTG.

Preparing for my first trailer - enclosed utility trailer <16' / mobile workstation/gear hauler

It sounds similar to the enclosed trailer setup I have, I thought I’d done a build thread on here awhile back but can’t find it now. My criteria was everything I did had to benefit both my woodworking business as well as camping. I used rolling toolboxes attached to the wall with E-Track...

    Living Vehicle

Who is buying these things for $500-$600k plus? Who is financing them? I clearly don’t understand the economy any more, most of the people I know with that kind of $ want a beach house and an offshore boat, not a camper trailer in the woods… Looks like a quality product, I just don’t see how it...

Asking price question for camper conversion

The age of the trailer doesn’t help much, I’d start with what you think that is worth and then add the value of any desirable parts you’ve added. (Solar, heater, fridge, etc). You’re not likely to get anything for your labor or any general materials like wall paneling, sleeping platform, etc...

    Bathroom or Storage?

Personally, I’d add a cassette toilet in the bottom part of your “storage closet, and just slide it out into the main area to use if it’s just the two of you in there. We bought one of these, there are probably better ones and it doesn’t get used that often. Our camping trip this week it rained...

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

I also bought a new ground tent a couple weeks ago, and have been impressed with it so far. I found a North Face Wawona 6 on eBay, new but discounted. I really like the other North Face tents I own, so I decided to try a big one and it was a good decision as it rained for 16 hours the first day...

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

Took the trailer on its first camping trip, just 2 nights over on the Suwannee river with our boys. Brought the golf cart along also, which was a good decision as it let me exercise the dog and us run to the lodge/pool/etc. Campground had a large RV park so things were spread out, but we were in...

    Lightship L1

I’d considered it as well, the classic Land Rovers have notoriously weak rear axle shafts and diffs, and the F/R diffs are the same drop out 3rd members. My thought was to use the whole rear axle to carry the spare parts, they also have a driveline mounted parking brake which would be handy to...

    back again...expo trailer 2.0

IMO you’re making the right call. I really wanted to build an off road teardrop but by the time I’d worked out the plans we were starting to have kids. Teardrops are ideal for “pull over and sleep for the night” type traveling, less so for typical car camping. They are limited at hauling stuff...

EV’s have less cold weather range? Here’s an interesting article on that

Something like 80% of people have a commute of 20 minutes or less, yet their gas vehicles averaging 20 mpg are “destroying the environment“. Meanwhile, school busses and USPS vehicles are running near constantly, using 1980’s emission standards…

Help me invest into the best overlanding/towing/ offroading rig!

There is zero reason to be talking about adding a turbo/supercharger to an older vehicle on a budget, especially when you’re planning to take it to remote places. Go buy a 2000-2006 Tahoe or Suburban, 4wd versions generally don’t cost any more than the 2wd ones. The 5.3L is about as solid as...

    L322 front strut question

I know nothing about this, but was curious so I did a bit of digging. Apparently the 10-12 Supercharged RR’s came with this, they have wires coming from the top of the struts under the hood, so I doubt it could be “retrofitted”. Arnott uses the same part for 03-12 non supercharged L322’s, so...

Is anyone else waiting on a trailer from Four Leaf Clover Fab?

There are these things. I’ve built an off-road open utility trailer but would still like a removable tub for it. More of a DIY deal, but possible for the average person. https://compactcampingstore.com/products/dinoot-m-series-tub-kits...

    Nothing too fancy, budget friendly?

The Smittybilt Scout trailer is the most affordable typical “camping trailer” setup. If you want to haul a bike though I’d just get a regular utility trailer with a 3500 lb axle, as narrow as possible, and put a rack on it for the tent. Here’s an easy option...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

I generally lean towards “operator error and personal responsibility“, this one is more an example of “when idiots collide.” Truck manufacturer advertises unrealistically high payload numbers to brag that they are the highest and sell more trucks… Camper manufacturer builds something so...

New home, destination with repair/maintenance facility

That’s an awesome idea/gesture. Personally, I’d set it up as a “business” for liability and tax reasons, even if the shop use fee is something like $10/day and you choose to waive it for more than a few folks. Things I’d be interested in if I were a guest would be: 1. A place to ship things...

    Quality USB-C Panel Mount?

Thanks for the Powerwerx link, had seen some of their stuff before but getting caught up on these newer “standards”. This is interesting too, not flush mount but might actually be an easier option to put inside a console or under a seat. https://powerwerx.com/quickcharge-75w-usb-dc-charger

Versatile off road open utility/camping trailer build

Small update, not a whole lot of progress to report but it’s been seeing a decent amount of use. Ready to get going on the home stretch and have it not covered in rust. It’s done really well hauling everything I’ve put on it so far, no photos of the pallets of plywood but it has more margin in...

    2022 Chrysler Pacifica AWD

Cool build. I’m jealous of some of the stuff other countries get, like practical vehicles rather than “you can roll the windows down from your phone!” and “this tailgate has 17 cameras and a flip out TV!” https://autoline.info/-/sale/passenger-vans/VOLKSWAGEN/T5--22091922153257260100
