Driving home today, I was thinking about my LX470 and the whole LC line

Cool post. Especially since I've recently strayed into the world of Land Rovers. And I agree with you. A brand or line of vehicles in a brand either speaks to you or it doesn't. Jeep guys love their Jeeps, Rover guys love their Rovers, etc. Over in the Rover world, the knock on Toyota's is they...

mpinco-Your answer is why I asked! Never heard of “Rockware”. The 265s will hold me over until they need to be replaced... Hmm...x2 on the SD rack w/ you in agreement with Ray_G

Thanks Ray-I knew you’d have an opinion! This is what I was thinking for the spare fuel &/or coolant cans. But I hear you on having a bunch of crap hanging off the back. Thinking of going this route to keep the COG low...

Wifey So I'm sitting at home yesterday nursing what appears to be more and more some sort of hernia. Wife took the cattle-dog/JRT mix and Chihuahua to the dog park to let them run. She drove the Discovery (which was parked around the corner). About two hours later, I hear a loud grumble coming...

All kinds of variables...gearing, carb-tuning, weight in the vehicle, speedo accuracy. YMMV.

I daily drive my FJ55 for two years and oddly, it would cruise down the highway at 70mph and pass emissions with flying colors. Fastest I've been in the FJ60 has been almost 60mph. I'll test emissions this week. The Discovery 1 with the 4.6l, on the other hand, sounds like a Chevy small block...

Please talk me out of my irrational desire for a Disco

I'm sorry to see this, but glad you're ok. Your thread is one of a few that pulled me into LR ownership. Hope you get back on the road soon...

So I went to the shop to get my roof racks, seat covers, jumper cables, etc out of Pippa. Sad sight. BUT: I’m swapping over the wheels & tires from her to the Discovery (265/70r16 BFG A/Ts). I said goodbye, took a couple of photos for comparison, and drove away...

DAMN! Well when you put it like that... That ABS light bugs the hell out of me. As does the SRS light that's on. I fix stuff when it breaks. Pulling the ABS fuse doesn't FIX the problem.Yesterday I parked it, turned it off, & heard a “buzzing” sound. The ABS pump fan wouldn't stop...

I Drove My Discovery 1 in the Snow And you know what? It sucked. I've never lost control before in the snow and today I slid into a curb. But to be honest, the culprit was crappy tires. And I didn't have the cdl locked. And it was icy. And the ABS light has been on. All in all-it didn't do too...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

Just muscled through this thread. My ‘94 D1 is a little rough cosmetically, but it has a professional 4.6l swap & is mechanically sound. I haven’t gotten a single nibble @ $1500! After driving to Snooze for breakfast in this snowy Denver weather, and reading this thread, I’m keeping it!

Just talked with the company that is assessing what it will cost to fix the RRC. $6k to repair it. And he wasn't supposed to tell me that. That definitely totals her. I wonder how much the retain option would be...

    1994 Discovery 1 with 4.6l swap-$1500

I bought this vehicle for the engine/tranny/transfer case to put in my Range Rover Classic. The Classic was rear-ended and totalled. Strong runner with some minor cosmetic defects (a little surface rust here and there, need a front bumper air dam). ABS light is on. Otherwise, as straight a Disco...

So I’ve Come Full Circle According to the shop, Pippa is dead. I could entertain the “retain” option. We’ll see what his insurance company says. But I’m not optimistic. In the meantime, I’m going back to what I know. I still have a Discovery with a well-done 4.6l that I need to figure out what...

A "Toyota Guy" Buys a Classic

UPDATE: Got a call from the shop-no frame damage! BUT, the force of the impact sheared off the mounts for the transfer case & transmission. And obviously the linkage is jacked up. And the rear hatch won't open. So I'm pretty sure she's totalled. I'll look at the cost of repairs b/f I decide...

You guys are a wealth of knowledge!! Funny, there's some cool Discos on the road and one in the shop right now. It's always been on the list “one day”. On page 6 of this thread is a page from the invoice of the Disco's swapped in 4.6l done in 08-09. $7k in work and almost 40k miles...
