Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

My last 60 could keep 45-50 up Eisenhower Pass coming up from Dillon eastbound, 33's stock gears, engine stock 230,000 miles on it. Wasn't that bad. About the same speed my FJ80 did on it. If I lived in Denver and had to drive I70 daily I definitely wouldn't want to settle for less than a 100...

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

Not saying you can nor would want to, was making the point of carrying payload more so and the broader sense of overlanding which is travelling and getting into the back country, not wheeling. If you are deliberately choosing difficult routes or trails than a solid axle Cruiser is going to have...

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

Safe to say, the LS motors are some of the best gas engines ever built. I agree with Clutch though, just grab a Suburban and dial that in. Way more room and for NA you can get parts in any small town if needed. They are crazy reliable.

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

I weighed my 80 series before a 2 month trip where I was living in it. 5,500lbs. That's without me in it but I was traveling solo. I wasn't nuts with armor, but lifted, 33's roof basket, bullbar, winch, 15 gallons of spare fuel, sleeping platform, tools/recovery gear, ski gear, mountain bike...

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

My point was yeah if you are freeway driving and city driving for that matter it's not adequate. I live in an area 3 hours from the nearest freeway and I didn't drive much freeway with my 60's when I lived in the west either. But even when I did, I really didn't have a problem most of the time...

    Oh, no doubt about it.

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

They do a version of the 80 too that looks pretty cool, probably a little more natural than the 100. The purist side of me cringes but at the same time my inner geek likes them.

Land cruiser straight 6 vs V8?

If your Cruiser is weighing in at 7,500lbs to go out on an adventure you bought the wrong vehicle first, and second are bringing waaay too much crap. To the OP's original question if you are thinking mileage and Land Cruiser, you will be sad no matter what. All gas NA trucks are pretty...

If Ford brings back the Ranger, will they make a Raptorized version?

I have been driving a 3.2 diesel Ranger here in New Zealand this past month and have a Colorado Duramax LT at home in the states. The 3.2 is a torquey beast, feels a touch quicker than the Colorado judged by seat of the pants as well as a touch less lag when you give it the beans off the line. I...

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

The main reason we went new was primarily the safety aspect. My wife driving our two kiddos around in the winter up here in the Upper Peninsula, an old Outback was going to be a losing proposition in 90% of the vehicles that could be involved since everyone drives full size trucks. We also got...

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

Not sure many people are going out of their ways to save money on fuel economy necasarily but in our case it was more like... wife wants to replace her Outback, there is a pickup that gets better mileage than an Outback and we ended up getting it for less than a mid trimmed Outback... plus now...

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

Our LT Duramax long bed gets 31+ on the highway, best was 33.5 and I have yet to do an unloaded highway measurement on summer blend diesel, those numbers were winter blend. We also have the air dam off. Towing our camper it gets 14-15 where as our 3/4 ton Suburban towing that camper in the same...

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Yeah, what's his name? It's a small world in that sport, I probably know them. I cut back after we had kids but am back involved again in the sport. I worked for the US Team for 10 years but didn't want to have that much travel and try to balance a family, been freelancing lately and working a...

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Matt, Good points and I guess I should clarify intentions a bit. First off this is my daily driver but I don't have a work commute, I am a ski coach and I travel for work. When I am home the Burb is for hauling the boys around, running errands, and hauling gear to support our outdoor pursuits...

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Looks sharp but the main reason I want the bull bar is for animal strikes. I have hit deer with a couple of mine over the years and it's saved me body and radiator damage for sure. We were talking about an Alaska trip next summer and some insurance against getting stranded from a busted radiator...

Yep, was referring to the hundy ARB, looks really sharp on the GMT800's just haven't seen one on a 2500 and was curious if it presented some extra challenge something.

Wow, so much good advice here. Thanks for taking the time to put that all in one post as it is super helpful. The idea of using stock tie rods with the sleeves is appealing and am going to look into the cognito braces as I would love a bit more steering precision too. I keep going back and...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

Yeah two times. First was just due to my wife's 2 mile work commute and not understanding initially that just idling doesn't allow it to regen. Second time was actually a sensor that measures voltage across the diesel particulate filter failing. They replaced that with the updated version that...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

Funny, we had the complete opposite impression comparing the two and we were both leaning Toyota going into it having had 3 Land Cruisers, an FJ Cruiser, and Tundra previously. The seating position with your knees up in the Tacoma wasn't as comfortable as the more upright position of the CO. We...

Colorado ZR2 and Tacoma TRD Pro compared

I would expect that if the sales are strong enough with the Duramax Colorado you will likely see an LS trim in the future as well as an extra cab. The fact that they are offering a Duramax ZR2 extra cab is promising. A work truck trim might be a bit much. It's a big risk they were taking...
