Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Well I think the time has come. After keeping our Burb mostly stock I am starting to plan out some upgrades to make this more of a long distance offroad tourer vs it's current status as a daily driver, tow rig, and backroads explorer. Now that my boys are getting to a more manageable age I think...

    Chevy Colorado with a camper?

The FWC she'll trim would probably be wahat you are looking for, you could equip it as you want it to maximize space and keep it light.

    Colorado Duramax thread

We cross shopped the Tacoma TRD Offroad with the Colorado DMax. My wife having lived for a d case in Jackson, WY had wanted a Taco for a long time though has been driving an Outback for her outdoor pursuits. I have had a Tundra, an FJ Cruiser, and 3 Land Cruisers so I have always been a Tacoma...

    Chevy Colorado with a camper?

One thing to consider in regards to the FWC and the Colorado is the tight clearance to the top of the bed rails. You might have to build up a spacer in the bed to assure the proper clearance. That said, the payload is better on the Colorado so that will give you a bit more numberswise to work...

    GMT800 Tahoe or Suburban?

In my eyes if you are going to get a vehicle this wide, go for the Burb. 130" wheelbase isn't bad for the amount of gear hauling you can do and flexibility. While the 1500's ride nicer and return better mpg's, the 2500 is a better place to start for an overlanding rig. Part of the equation that...

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

Pretty good evaluation from someone with some background in vehicle travel http://www.exploringelements.com/launched-chevy-colorado-zr2/

Competition helps improve the whole category, I totally agree. Nothing makes complacency more so than no competition.

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

I saw somewhere, I can't remember where at the moment, that the decreased towing capacity was due to cooling and the different front end on the ZR2. It doesn't get quite as much into the radiator and intercooler.

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 first drive reviews

As a long time Toyota fanboy, specifically Land Cruisers, I am really stoked on this new ZR2. Being a guy from Michigan it makes me a bit proud of the home team. What a sweet package. We have an LT trimmed Duramax that is my wife's daily driver and so far it has exceeded our expectations. Last...

    2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Yeah, we have seen as high as 33.5 with our LT Duramax. 31-32 is common and it is rated for 28. I imagine real world will be a touch higher for the ZR2 too if you have a light foot.

Going domestic, project vanilla aka the family tankster, 2004 Suburban 2500

Thanks man. We have kept it pretty simple. When I bought the truck the front end was really low, either sagged or somebody lowered it. It had a really severe case of stink bug going on. It had 285's on it and they rubbed if you had the wheel cranked and were on any sort of uneven surface. I...

Holden Colorado 2.8 half height Canopy build

Sweet, following this with interest as well. We just recently got the Colorado Duramax that was released last year on the States and are big mountain bikers as well. We have the long bed. For now just taking bikes to the trail head we just toss them in the back but trying to come up with a plan...

    2001 Suburban K2500 - Summer Camping & Winter Commuting

The Duramax's are a good all around tire. Better than a normal AT in the greasy stuff, ride well on pavement, and are pretty good in the snow as they have great siping. My only complaint with them was they get a little noisy as they wear, but not as bad as s full MT. Truck is looking great! Cool...

    Colorado Duramax thread

We went from having a mountain bikes for summer and fat bikes for winter to just using the fatbike year round. They pretty much can do anything. The grip and stability lets you do things that you can't on other bikes. Mine is pretty heavy as it is designed for gear hauling and bikepacking more...

Interestingly enough, when we bought this camper we still had our FJ Cruiser and had just moved back to the UP. We thought we were going to be living in the camper in various places in the country while my wife did 3 month gigs as a travel nurse. The FJ did ok towing except in regards to sway...

It's the banana belt of the Upper Peninsula, not far away but a fun little weekend escape. We saw only a handful of people all weekend which is a huge plus.

Ok a towing update. Ended up pulling our camper for a weekend get away this past weekend. I am VERY impressed by the performance. It ended up being around 250ish miles total. We averaged 13.5mpg despite having strong head winds as well as some good crosswinds at times going there and coming...

Thanks for the tip on the dongle, I will have to look into that. I recently wrapped up my busy work travel season so hoping to find more time for online research and car projects soon. I have done a bunch of reading on Colorado fans but haven't signed up yet.
