    Fuso FG dash lights

problem solved In searching for an answer to the intermitant dash light I ran across a reference to the driver-activated vacum-actuated exhaust brake on the Fuso FG's.Now the loose nut behind the wheel only need's to figure out which switch he inadvertantly turned on.

    Fuso FG dash lights

My traveling partner called me last night from the wilds of eastern Montana with a concern over his new to him 2007 FG. He just got it and the seller did not send the owners manual yet so he is unable to check what the dash light that is coming on signifies. When he lets off the throttle while...

Service bodies that work with pickup campers

service bodies I have an eight foot Alaskan on a Knaphide service body and it works great. There is a huge amount of storage and the rear bumper area really lends itself to fuel cans, highlift and shovel and axe mounts. On the older style trucks you had to use a real low body but on the new...

    1989 Dodge W350 Diesel Build

Dodge w350 One of my coworkers had a very similar truck that he flogged unmercifully for nearly 400,000 miles with nothing more serious then a trany rebuild {torqueflite}. They are extremely tough and simple machines and probably as good a base for an expedition truck as exists in the US.

    Fuel Economy???

modular approach The GS is hands down a better primary expedition bike then the TW, sort of like the Superduty to the LJ, but you can't haul a GS on the hitch so I guess the TW is as good as it gets. I ran a 96 F-350 diesel for 100,000 miles over 8 years. About half of those were with a total...

    Fuel Economy???

modular approach I like the modular approach to fuel economy, I can use the one that best suits my needs and gets the highest mpg. The Superduty V-10 hauls the house and everything else and gets 10 miles to the gallon. The LJ is great for exploring and makes a great trailer that will go about...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

19.5 tires Carlyle, your new shoes look great on the truck and should go a long way in giving you one less thing to worry about. On my old F350 and 11.5 camper I had three right rear blow outs over the course of about 50,000 miles hauling the camper. Two were due to defective tires and occurred...

    Commercial Truck Tires

super e rating Probably more of a marketing term then a tire industry standard, I first heard it used on the new generation of e rated 285/75/r16 tires rated to carry 3750 pounds at 80 psi, this was a signifigant step up from the standard e rated 235/85/r16 at about 3050 pounds at 80 psi.

    Commercial Truck Tires

19.5 tires I will be interested to see what you think of the 19.5s on your superduty, a fellow camper was running them on his duramax crewcab with a camper weight similar to mine and was very happy with them. He was up in the 35,000 mile range and they looked like they had lots of miles left...

Anyone own a small D/S bike?

200 tw We have been hauling a tw200 around for the last three years on our camper for short excursions. We have put about 1500 miles on it, mixed hiway and dirt roading in Montana, arizona, and Baja. It is tough, economical and dependable. It is not a traditional dirt bike but if you take...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Yakima racks I really like your track system, much more versatile then the one from Alaskan. Are the tracks bolted all the way through the roof to the inside or are they lagged into the roof framing?

camper article That' s great that they did an article on your Alaskan, after living with a 11 1/2 monster for eight years downsizing both systems and size in the Alaskan without losing the comfort has been a liberating experience.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Wild 1 in Baja Wish it had been us Joaquin, my Dad's been ill so we decided that we needed to stay a little closer to home. We spent most of our time in Arizonia and Utah. We were in Baja for about five weeks last winter and spent a couple of them in the Muluge area. One of the border patrol...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Tw200 The TW200 is more like a burro then a regular dirt bike, you just kind of point it in the direction that you would like to go and let it find its way.Works great for getting around once the camper is set up. The locals in Baja just loved this bike, I was a little concerned if I was going...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

shakedown cruise Glad your maiden voyage went well, we just returned to Montana after 2 months down south in our Alaskan. The more we use it the better we like it. Did you happen to get a loaded weight before the trip?We are running about 11,000 all up with the TW200 on the rack.

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

roof rack system Great to see your camper taking shape. Looks like you are going to have tons of interior cabinet space. My cabinets are very narrow due to the utility box but it is nice to have the outside access to the storage areas. Looks like you will have the best of both worlds. Is the...

    Alaskan Camper Build Up

Sounds like you have covered most of the items in your build list that we have addressed, for cold weather the catalyic heater and the inside battery compartment will go a long way towards keeping you warm. I have not had a problem with the door but you do need to maintain the weather...
