Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Here is a picture of this weekend’s festivities, as well as one of the truck where it sits currently. I got everything buttoned up enough by midday yesterday to pull it out and take it for a short test drive. Everything seems to be working and I can’t find any leaks. Yesterday afternoon I was...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

The old 7.3 is just about put back together now. I’ll post some updated photos soon. I’m hoping to pull it outside for the first time tomorrow. I just pulled the trigger on some new Method 17” rims for it. They’ll be here Monday. Now I need to figure out what to put on them for tires. Any input...

    1 ton for salt county

I live in the northeast in Maine so I unfortunately have plenty of experience with salted roads and rusty vehicles. We have the double whammy of also being near the ocean and getting the salty air as well. Fluid film is my prevention method of choice and I have been extremely pleased with the...

Hierarchy of hard sided campers that handle the snow/winter?

That is a more than sufficient explanation. Thank you very much, it’s helpful to know a little about what happened. That’s a pretty special kind of dirty, even in our capitalist system where this is all too common. I’m very sorry to hear that this was done to you and I hope that your lawyers are...

Hierarchy of hard sided campers that handle the snow/winter?

Not to hijack this thread, but I would be curious to know more about what happened between OAT and Total Composites. Also, I think Idasho’s advice is on point for the OP. Used truck campers can often be had for pretty cheap. Like he did, that would give you a chance to figure out what works...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Well it’s about time I provided an update to this thread. About a month ago I dove head first into the rebuild of the truck side of this project. I had gotten about as much prep done as I could before tearing the truck apart, so I finally had to commit. I put the truck in one side of my two car...

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

Yes, you’re correct. We use the Lunos E2 system which would be a little harder to package in a camper, but totally possible. The unit has a heat sink and a fan inside of a tube. In the winter, the fan pulls inside air out for 50 seconds, which heats the core up. Then the fan reverses pulling...

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

I understand your perspective. I just thought I’d offer my experience since I’ve lived with the units in question for a couple of years. Ultimately folks have varying degrees of appetite for complexity in their campers. I’m frankly not sure if we’ll put an HRV in our camper when we get around...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Thanks very much for the insight! I’d love a 550 and I have considered it, but it’s just not in the cards right now. If I can keep it to 10,000 - 10,500 I’ll be more than happy and feel perfectly comfortable driving it. Like I said, I plan to utilize a small enclosed trailer for gear if needed...

    Heat Recovery Ventilators

I thought I would chime in on this thread since I have a bit of real world experience with HRV’s and specifically ones made by Lunos. While I haven’t yet put one in a camper, my partner and I use the Lunos E2 system in the tiny house we built and live in full time. The house is 32’ x 8’ or...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Do you have a weight on your rig? I agree that a 550 chassis would be nice, but if you keep the weight down to a reasonable amount for a 350, I don’t see why that won’t work. I certainly don’t expect to build a 5000 - 6000 pound camper and throw it on there, but a 3500 pound camper is totally...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

Thanks for the info on the wheels and spacers. That’s very helpful. Do you have any suspension mods or do the tires clear with stock leafs? One of the other reasons I was looking at the 17” methods versus 18” is the backspacing. For some reason they’re different and I figured I would need a...

Early ‘99 F-350 Powerstroke work truck turned expo rig, with some work truck in there still!

I haven’t had a lot of time to work on the truck build, but I’ve been doing a lot of planning and shopping for parts. In particular I’m trying to figure out what I want to run for a tire and wheel set up on this. The truck has factory 3.73 gears, which with the ZF-5’s overdrive ratio and the...

I think it’s about time I post a build thread for my early ‘99 PSD Super Duty. I’ve been a long time lurker here and would like to document my upcoming build and get input from the community, while giving some knowledge back as well. I’ve been in the off-road scene since college about 12 years...

    Super Duty camper build

Really good looking rig man! I'm into Jeeps but recently picked up a '99 F350 RCLB with the 7.3 to tow the Jeep but I also want to make some mods to the truck so that it can serve as base camp when I'm on a trip with it and the Jeep.

Texas to California and back in a formerly derelict 1966 VW Beetle

I have to say that I for one love the mutlicolor panels. They really give the car personality. I love that it isn't perfect, it shows that it has been through life and been used. Great report and sounds like an awesome trip! Thanks for sharing!

    100,000 miles

Fairly new to the site, just read through the the truck thread and am reading through your teardrop thread as we speak. I love seeing the tundra used as it should be! We have a tacoma that is an awesome truck and goes great. I also have a Honda Accord with 286,000 on it. Gotta love that Japanese...
