First time I have heard of a parking brake that requires air pressure, I thought it would be the air pressure that disenaged the brake like on my Unimog. If you have an air leak overnight, then you would lose your park brake. I don't know anything about your brake system though.

Thanks, it has worked pretty well for 10 years.

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

We have done some long trips with it, and on the last trip it was over 40C. The new radiator kept the truck around 90-94C, which is around the same temperature as the old one, and we have used the od one when it was 48C to 50C where it ran around 98 to 100C. I can't say that it is a big...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

Those look very well made. On problem I have seen with step that reach that far is getting a hand hold close. You may be 3-4 step high before you can reach any bar you have on the door. On light trucks like outs, the truck rocks a bit as you get on the first step, so a hand hold is a good...

    Improving headlight options.

For those of us in Queensland ( and most of Australia) this is the law. Our outer light are "Working" lights, and do not come on with the high beams. We only use them off road. The light bar ( and the big box) you have on your truck would not be legal over here Charlie. Changing the OEM...

    Improving headlight options.

There are two main problems with having powerful high beam headlights, first is the difference when switching to low beams is so pronounced, it is like turning your headlights off, until you eyes re-adjust. I only use the roof lights when there is not likely to be much traffic, as the lower...

    Improving headlight options.

Each to their own Joe, but to me that's like saying don't drive in the rain, or don't drive into the sun. All great advice, but not really practical given the distances out here in Australia, where often need to do 800-1000km in a day. Driving around dusk is a lot more risky than when it is...

    Improving headlight options.

We had a wide light bar on our Defender for a month, and took if off after a trip to the beach on evening, with a slight bit of evening mist or dust, the light bar was useless, just throwing a solid white curtain right in front of the car. These are the outer light the smaller 7" light the we...

    Improving headlight options.

We were given a set of Auxbeam headlights and spotlight to test out for our YouTube Channel. The headlights are OK, and whilst better than the old LED headlight we had, are still not in the same league as the Xenon headlights we have in the other cars. The spot light however are fantastic. We...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

I decided to add another pickup line to the secondary fuel tank to enable me to transfer every last drop to the main tank. Whilst I can run the truck from either tank, the left tank has quite a high pickup, and is not baffled, so there is around 25-30lt of fuel left in the tank when it start...

Having a custom built truck is difficult, not many people will work on anything like that because it is going to cost you a lot of money for them just to understand what is going on with the systems, let alone try to diagnose the problem, and unless you have a circuit diagram and all the various...

    unimog as work truck/adventure rig

Fully loaded with fuel, food and water we weigh around 8 tons - which is the max GVM of our U1250. Box is 3.6m L x 2.2M W and 2m H. Inside it is 1.9 - 1.95m high. Ours is quite modified compared to most Unimogs, and we cruise at 100kph all day long. I have a speed alarm to stop me going...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

Just got back from a week out in the middle of nowhere. The new drone worked great, the active track and collision avoidance working well. It raised itself above the trees at over 40kph. We went to Hell Hole Gorge in western Queensland, about 1000km from home. It was a a beautiful...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

We had the diesel stove, which was great, apart form taking a long time to heat up and cool down. Then it stopped working - I diagnosed the problem one of circuit boards, which would cost $900 + shipping to replace, with no guarantee. Just to look at it was a $500 fee, and local tech shop...

Unimogadventures - Our build and travel thread

We have decided to do shorter trips in the truck, until we can get away for a longer break later this year hopefully. Here is our new video from one of these short trips, hopefully one every month from now on.

Toolbox / fuel tank ground clearance?

Fully loaded, we are 600mm at the lowest point ( which is the chassis itself) and we have a 3250mm wheelbase. We have never bottomed out, closest we came was driving over a fallen tree, and hit the step which I had to bend down a bit afterwards. As you can see below, the step is about 150mm...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

I never bothered with bearings on mine, just used normal zinc plated bolts with a tight fit - steel to steel and some occasional grease or spray oil. So far, I have never had to replace even one of the bolts, and give it a spray with some Ballistol every couple of months, especially when we...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

The problem I can see is that the lever arm for the ladder trying to fold it in (assuming the lower step is on the bottom) is so much more than the lever arm length available to push the ladder out. It looks like at least 10:1 - so if I stood on it, my 82kg would exert 820kg onto the lever...
