"Bruce" the 2014 Jeep JKUR Build Thread

do you already have a front truss and C-gussets? if not, don't forget the cost for those items (mostly labor) when comparing to crate axles. most aftermarket axles will be available with quite a bit thicker tube walls so you can get away without a truss or sleeves. several brand assemblies also...

    Captain Texas Anvil JKU build

30 PSI is a typical starting point for larger aftermarket A/T or M/T tires. there's a ton of variables including vehicle weight, sidewall stiffness/thickness (i.e. plys & load rating), sidewall profile/height, etc. i'm running 35-R17 M/T's at 31 PSI on my JKUR, i would expect your A/T's might...

Samsung Galaxy Tab A & GPS without WiFi

actually what i was talking about is not Apple specific. this better explains the 2 very different versions of A-GPS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS originally A-GPS was only what that article calls MSB, i.e. getting orbital data from the internet in order to establish a faster...

Samsung Galaxy Tab A & GPS without WiFi

might be due to A-GPS (aka aGPS). originally this meant Assisted-GPS and was a technology for using data from the internet to help the GPS achieve a faster initial satellite lock. but then some manufactures started using the same term to mean a GPS chip that ONLY works with the assistance of the...

2017 JKU Rubicon Rhino - All Purpose Build

with east coast red clay, you probably couldn't have walked it without falling on your ***** a couple times! sounds like a fun time though. love the suitcase, it really contrasts well with the Rhino color! ;)

Samsung Galaxy Tab A & GPS without WiFi

yeah, i wish the free one was a full featured time trial or something instead so people could really test it. but $10 is really cheap to even try something and not keep it. their own support forums are great, the developer responds within a day usually on there...

Samsung Galaxy Tab A & GPS without WiFi

i'm a fan of AlpineQuest GPS Hiking over Gaia on Android anyway. Gaia isn't bad on iOS devices, but their Android version seems like a second string attempt. Backcountry Navigator is also popular on Android for topo maps/GPS use, but i find it very glitchy. anyway, there are tons of other apps...

Changed battery, now my alarm/horn/flashers go off at random

i've seen that happen in various vehicles due to a low battery - so i'm guessing you have a loose wire or poor (corroded) connection somewhere near the battery that got bumped while changing it out. maybe double check all your wiring/connections in that area.

    Tablets with robust power connector

i used to have a Motorola XOOM with a separate barrel connector for power, but that was years ago. most anything Android has been Micro-USB forever, and now it would seem everyone is going to type-C connectors. the type-C ones are at least reversible, and seem a little less delicate than...

feedback on dual battery system design?

for all the other comments... i don't know about every other rig out there - but i do know for sure that my JK will not start from a lithium jump pack alone - at least the one i test and a different brand that a friend tested. i'm almost certain it won't run if you start it then pull the battery...

feedback on dual battery system design?

i do go out by myself quite often, have a fridge that eats up the juice, and have seen quite a few battery failures of differents sorts over the years - so yes, i'm quite sure that i want a "just in case". however you do make a great point about needlessly spending money (as well as effort) -...

feedback on dual battery system design?

just convenience... before i put a dual battery setup in my previous rig, i used to just carry a small jump starter that could replace the battery completely - a JNC300XL. i found with the Phoenix heat that i pretty much had to take it out and charge it up at home every 3 months or it wouldn't...

feedback on dual battery system design?

based on all the instructions i've seen on different brands of those lithium jumpers, and my own tests with one - they can't actually replace the main battery if you have a complete failure (or extremely drained state)... i recently ended up with a shorted cell in my factory battery on my 2016...
