A couple of thoughts based on my rig:
1) James Baroud does make a covered opening for their hard shell tents if you also utilize their awning
2) Probably goes without saying, but just in case... if putting the front of your tent below roof-line with a Baroud sort...
@vegas: I'm sure they will. They're really flexible to work with to get exactly what you're after - and they'll probably take your idea, noodle it, and come back with something better.

There are some tonneau/rack combos out there that would let you mount it fairly low whilst still being able to close up the bed and secure cargo, keep it out of the elements.
