    Platform bed in suburban w/seats

I am building one now that allows the seats to remain. You will have 60" to the rear seat which is not enough for me. At the seat end of my drawer/box I will have an 18" platform on a hinge that folds out with 2 legs. That will extend the bed to 78" and still leave about 24" behind the two...

Picked up my First Truck today! 2010 Ford Raptor

Very Cool! I have one of these for work that I drive and abuse everyday. It has been passed around like a bar fly and driven about the same. Several guys at work have told me about it being air born, taken up over 100mph down a desert washes etc. Currently it has over 180k miles and with all...

    Another 1991 Suburban

That is a GREAT idea! With all the $$ we put into these rigs that would be a great way to not only get it back but also get the parts back. Not to mention the fun that goes along with recovering your own rig. Given the capabilities of these things, we should be able to get a 200lb 6' object...

    'Burb buying advice

I went with the 2500. I found with all the trucks I've bought in the past, I ended up needing the extra a few times and was always glad I stepped up. If for the only the drive train I say it's worth it. Also, some of the 2500s came with the HD towing package that includes the G80 Gov locker...

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

Overall I'm very happy with the look. Doing this one different than all my other builds. I'm not going to lift it so I can keep the same geometry for the drive train and I want it to have as plain a look as possible, thus the black rims. Next project will be the bed and drawers. Design is...

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

New Kicks and Fender Trimming Discount Tire had a deal I couldn't pass up, 4 BFG's 4 Rims, $970 out the door after a $200 rebate. So I sold off the steel wheels I planned to install and went with the wider rim and tire. These are 285/75/16 and of course rubbed front and back. Soooooo, time...

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

Next project is the rims and tires. Turns out the 90's wanted the custom rims back so I picked up some steel rims for $100 that will get black paint and some BFG 285's this week.

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

Once it was all ready I dropped in the winch, hooked it up and all worked great. Plan to add some brackets to the middle of the mount later today but glad this project is done!

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

I welded 2 pieces of 1X3 angle iron from front to back for support and to attach the winch mount. Over did the weld but mig wire is cheap. Then I ground it down and attached the winch mount push guard and welded that in place. Once this was done, I painted it and bolted it to the frame.

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

I decided to build a steel plate that would attach between the frame rails using the mounts already there for the recovery hooks. This would provide additional lateral support and a skid plate for that front area. Later I will mount some lights on the sides and corners of the plate.

    1997 K2500 Sub- Expedition Build

Winch project A winch was probably one of the most important additions given much of our time off road will be out there alone. At work several of our vehicles have the Warn 12k winch. I had to take an off road course since my assigned vehicle is a 4x4. The course was as joke especially in a...

    Stock Wheels or Aftermarket?

I had 285s on a stock GM Duamax that was most often overloaded and never had a problem after 140k miles. Most of the stress was from weight and not off road but I did a few tough trails and had no problems. I was always wondering about those aluminum rims though. I just purchased stock steel...

    Extra Tall Options

We were in the same spot after my XJ build. It would go anywhere but everywhere I went, I could get a much larger and more comfortable vehicle there as well. Trying to carry so much in so little space got old quickly. So when I found a 97 Sub with the G80 LS rear, 410 gears etc, I jumped on...

GM owners, anyone have experience with these tie-rod sleeves?

I've always upgraded the tie rods on my vehicles but did have one negative experience on my F350 Supper Duty. I slid into a ditch while wheeling in the rain and the weight of the truck found the next weakest link in the steering system which was my steering box. I stripped the gears, blew...

    What should I build?

Coming from the dual sport world myself, I went with the XJ but found it was too small. Looked at trucks and being a gear head, looked at the older fun stuff as well. In the end I went with the 2500 series Suburban that came with a locker. Turns out we have more than enough room and a fairly...
