FIRST TEST RUN- WOW!
So we loaded it up for a test run last night. We took this and my son's 95 OJ Bronco out to check the 4X4 systems, its capabilities and identify potential problems before our big trip next month. We drove out to east San Diego County to an off road park that required a...
So the 12V cooler runs at 65 watts and I was thinking a 100 watt solar panel would keep up with the draw. I left it on last night and at 4:30 AM I was still at 11 volts on the battery. However, just before the sun hit the panel around 8 this morning, (fog was in), the battery had dropped to...
I finished the electrical today and the system works perfect. The solar is a temp mount until I get the roof rack done but even then it will be removable so I can keep it in the sun and the vehicle in the shade when possible. To do this I mounted a water tight receptacle to the panel and a...
I just got a brand new one for work, in a stock F150. I drive like an ***** but still get 17 MPG. I like the way it drives. I'm a V8 fan but I like this 6.
I too am at the roof rack stage of the game. Can you post a close up of how you attached it to the roof? Did you use the mounts from the stock rack or make something entirely new?
Second battery
The second battery project went well. I still need to install the solar panel but am waiting to build a roof rack, which is behind painting the roof...
I learned a lot from others on the forum and a few things from my experience. I purchased the 2AWG welding cable and 5/16"...
Made the extension for the bed... will post photo later. Came out nice and it will fold up and out of the way as needed.
Today, good ol' Amazon brought all the parts for the electrical project this week. Came out to around $350 for everything. I got some great ideas from this forum as I...
Spare will eventually go on the roof, just haven't made the rack yet.
I was trying to modify the space for storage on the drivers side of the engine compartment but it's a couple inches too short for an RV battery. Looks like my options are to put it inside the back or use a non RV battery...
The dash light issue is common and an easy fix. I had the fuel gauge go out on mine. I found a guy somewhere off a forum and mailed the cluster to him. He fixed it and put in all new lights for under $100 with shipping.
good info guys, thanks for taking the time to put it all up. My last diesel was an 04 Duramax which was great, after the 4th set of injectors.. I've heard from friends who upgraded that they miss the older motors and most have told me they will only go gas from here forward.
Looks like I'm going to remove the passenger seat behind the driver's seat. The refrig fits perfectly there and I can get several water containers there as well. For now I'm going to have to put the spare tire on the other seat until I get the roof rack or rear bumper built. The next project...
Thx guys, Not that I built them to hold a body but ya, guess that is an option :)
Did some finishing work this weekend. HD had a roll of carpet for $20 that was perfect. The wife helped with the corners since I had not idea how to do that stuff. I then put a redwood sheet over the drawers...
This is the only other file I have of the drawer slide. I bought all 4 from a local metal yard, pre-cut to the size I needed for $20. Retail home improvement stores are about 10x the price for metal.
I think I will use the same 1" steel for the roof rack build. Very sturdy stuff, easy to...
Rear Drawers
As you will see, I picked up some great ideas off this site for my rear drawer build. I have under $300 in materials so all in all it was worth the time. I went with the skateboard bearings and 1" square tubing for a drawer slider. I also chose the more expensive and high quality...
Nice drawers. I'm in the middle of the same project. I borrowed the idea from roadtripcrazed, http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/47516-LATEST-PROJECT-Truck-Drawers-Sleeping-Platform
I like the way you extended the bearings with a nut on each side. As I was building this I noticed I...
Sort of, it was purchased for work along some border communities but now used primarily street since the miles are so high. I know the Border Patrol has a few of them as well and they love them. Nothing gets more abuse than their vehicles.
