Well here comes the weekend update motherlode. Last Thursday I decided I was going to get working on fabricating a tire carrier rear bumper. Did a ton of research because it was 105 degrees outside and I couldnt stand to actually work on the truck. Four days later I basically got nowhere hahaha...
So it sounds like; carry an extra electric pump, bypass the stock mechanical pump, keep enough fittings and rubber line in the truck to make emergency repairs to both.
So completely bypass the stock mechanical fuel pump on the block? Keep the filter in the carb and dont run an inline filter with the new electric pump. A cheapo pump like that will be enough for the fuel this engine needs? Seems crazy.
Who you talking to about selling the 5.3? @zoomad75 ?
Ha, I like the wooden clothes pin idea. As for adding the electric pump, that seems like the best fix that Ive read so far. Do you know specifically what pump people use in this application?
Thanks for the intense response @zoomad75 If I were to tell you I found a 96 3/4 ton Suburban with an L29 that runs and drives for $2000, would you call that a good deal? To answer my own question, I think yes.
I went camping and mountain biking in Sedona this weekend. The Blazer barely made...
@nitro_rat and @zoomad75 You guys have been a wealth of information and I cant thank you enough. @zoomad75 what front springs are you running? Since your truck is so close to the same as mine Im curious about the specifics of your setup. I will likely run a very similar setup if you are happy...
Im certainly not opposed to spending less money. Does the weight of my camper effect things though? This is the first time I have seen someone say the Tuff Country springs ride well, most people say they are horrendous. Maybe that was back in the day?
Ok I see what you mean. Yes it does have the HD 3 leaf front springs, they're even listed on the order card! Im hoping the inverted leaves are causing positive caster which is causing the wandering, since literally everything else has been ruled out at this point.
My plan right now is to do...
Steering links are all in good shape, steering gear is brand new, frame around gear is not cracked, steering stabilizer is brand new, ball joints have no or minimal play using the "grab the top and bottom of the tire and move back and forth as much as you can" method, after checking both wheel...
I just happened to be laying on the ground with a pry bar so I wiggled stuff around a little. As for the driveshaft u-joints, I see what youre saying. For the axle shaft u-joints, you do appear to be correct that the joint doesnt have any play, its the shaft moving inside the spindle. I figured...
I think the upper hinge bolt is busted. Also I cant seem to get to the "post" that mounts on the body to remove it. I think the camper has to be off and that isnt happening any time soon. You are welcome to have it as soon as I get all the parts off the truck.
At first I thought the holes were...
Thanks for all the tips on the fan shroud guys.
A bunch of stuff showed up from LMC truck yesterday A new grill which I accidentally ordered badgeless. I got one of the sweet reproduction bowtie's and I cant put it on now. (n) Also all new door seals, window seals, door hinges and some other...
When you say not "correct" does that mean its actually doing harm? Or just that its not original? Should I put something else on?
Interesting, thanks for the info @Oilbrnr and @nitro_rat is there science behind this? Just common knowledge about these vehicles? Currently it runs really cool...
Went back to Napa when they opened this morning at 9 and picked up a bigger radiator. My truck had the ~20" tall radiator so I swapped the 17" I got yesterday for a 20 7/8" tall one that is supposed to be for the big block trucks. Its the Napa Spectre NR730. All the fittings lined up and the...
I woke up this morning and it was unseasonably cool and cloudy. I decided it was a day for yardwork and then truck work. I went to town once again cleaning everything up against the firewall, which I hadnt touched so far. Things were going well, the sun came out and it warmed up. I went for a...
