"Just curious if this is "Salesman" talk/euphemism that has been adopted by owners?"
Yes it is. That 6 gallons is weight you have to carry, but it really can't be used. The drain dumps it into the dirty bottom of the compartment and then out onto your shoes.
Some mfgrs claim X gallons of...
I insure the truck as a standard truck. Any modifications to it + the camper I self-insure.
Pay the money into your savings account instead of the insurance company. You will come out way ahead in the long run.
Not a problem at 70MPH because it likely won't ever get there. Many years ago I bought a well-used and abused 1976 CJ5 with the 258 straight 6 and a 3 speed. It was terrifying to drive at 55. It would have needed a very long and steep hill to hit 70. It didn't climb well because that 1st...
I bought my 99 TJ new, and it has solid lug nuts. Maybe they were part of the 30" tire & wheel option that it has. I doubt that the dealer would have put aftermarket or replacement lug nuts on the factory wheels.
Bigfoot and Northern Lite campers are both built of fiberglass with no other framing and have 6-7 foot cabovers. I have never heard of anyone on here or on RV.net experiencing a structural failure. Leaks that allowed the wood floors to rot, yes, but no structural failures.
There are also...
Nice setup! I've always thought a minivan would make a great camper as long as you limit yourself to the nicer roads.
I've been on a few forest service roads that would be an issue for something like that, but most of them would not be a problem.
Also a minivan has 3 features that a lot...
I've heard good things about the SeeLevel gauge system, but have no personal experience. I want to do that to my camper but its not cheap, and I am, so I keep using the "by guess and by golly" system. It has only failed a couple of times, and it was the grey water that overflowed...
"So why not just skip all the extra expenses of buying and installing the add ons needed to make your 3/4 Ton "capable" of carrying an overweight load and instead just buy a 1Ton in the first place, and drive peacefully knowing you have much less to worry about?"
Because I had a 3/4T truck when...
I once killed a Dometic version of the Engel cooler by running it off the dash lighter socket on a Chevy. It seems they don't like small wires. I think they take their current in gulps, like an inverter does. If you want it to live a long life you need to send power to it on short fat wires...
I got mine here:

I don't know if they are dimmable as I seldom drive at night anymore, but they have been working for 3 or 4 years now.
I used to own a class C motorhome. The appliances certainly do rattle the entire time you are driving. I had a lot of issues with that rig, but none of the appliances failed.
Now I have a truck camper and I don't hear them rattle anymore. I still haven't had one fail, and I spend a fair...
Copying a kitchen chair seems like a good idea to me. They are designed to do what you are looking for. I would look at RV dinettes with a wary eye, many of them are designed to fit a space, not to fit a human body. The seats in my Lance truck camper are 23" high - much too high. The side to...
I can't speak for other vans, but my sister's Ford Transit T150 has some welded-in threaded bungs around the top that will hold a hook or ring for a hammock. We moved 2 of the included tie-down rings near the floor up to the bungs near the roof at the left front and right rear corners - instant...
These folks have been through South America in an RV. They have some good advice in their blog:

It is likely framed in 1x2, maybe 2x2 in that area. That is what your tiedown ring is threaded into.
If that frame member is rotted it will have to be replaced.
Lots of threads about repairing rotted wood over on RV.net. It is a common problem.
My sister has a US 2015 Transit that has dual batteries. They are tied directly together, no separator. They are mounted under the driver's seat and are not easy to get at.
We used a Blue Sea ACR bidirectional battery separator between the house batteries and the engine batteries. That way...
