What the heck is this thing?

Took a short adventure recently to remote part of California's high desert. Was doing some exploring and came upon this: Its obviously a stone monument of some sort, built from local rock found around the base. It's about 12 feet tall and 4 feet square at the base. It's extremely sturdy...

    Unloading/ Loading a truck camper....

I never leave the jacks on when traveling. They weigh close to 100 lbs and I don't want the extra weight, secondly they hang down and are just looking to hit something and get torn off. As far as stabilizing the truck, sounds like it could work. However you would need to be careful to avoid...

Dont pick on the new guy.

I camped for years in a 1994 2wd Explorer with no problems. Never got stuck and never needed recovery gear. Just bring along a healthy dose of common sense and be prepared to turn when the road/trail gets questionable.

Rubber mat between the camper and truck?

OK - tin can beds of these trucks? Not sure what that means. Does the camper bounce up and down on the bed? Mine doesn't do that, it seems like a bad thing. Provide friction? Unclear about this as well. My spray-in bed liner is quite rough and the camper has not showed any tendency to...

Ram 2500 over GVW with a FWC Hawk!

The weight of your rig is in line with mine. I've got a Hawk on a GMC 2500HD and it tips the (truck) scales at about 8800 lbs fully loaded. The GVWR for my truck is 9500 lbs, surprised that yours is so much lower.

Rubber mat between the camper and truck?

It's a 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD. Does have a spray-in liner but no mat. Camper has never slipped or shifted.

Rubber mat between the camper and truck?

Don't think so. FWC installed my Hawk at their factory in December. No rubber pad. Tech guy made it very clear before I showed up that there should be nothing in the bed.

Rubber mat between the camper and truck?

On FWC's website they specifically advise against any sort of bed mat. Spray in bed liners are OK.

    2015 GMC 2500HD GAS 4X4 (Opinions)

Thanks, my wife and I really enjoy it. We don't have the side dinette, we went with the basic rollover couch. We camp mostly in good weather and want to be outside as much as possible. Lots of storage room under the couch that is lost if you go with a side dinette. IMHO the 3/4 ton (lifted...

Looking for a cover for my Northstar TC 650

Any suggestions for a truck AND camper cover? I rarely take the camper off the truck and would like a cover that fits both.

    2015 GMC 2500HD GAS 4X4 (Opinions)

Not quite the same but I've got a 2012 GMC 2500HD 4x4 6.0L gasser with a 2014 Hawk on board. Very nice package for my needs. Can run at 75-80 mph on the freeway and is reasonably capable off-road. Gas mileage is not great at 11-13 mpg. Would like a bigger fuel tank, with only 36 gals my...

    SMB/Van vs. slide-in/pop-top camper

Since this is the SMB forum you're probably gonna get more pro-SMB viewpoints, but here's my story. I went through the same process and ended up with a truck and FWC, mostly based on cost, but other factors came in as well. My truck is a GMC 2500HD 4x4 and I know a lot of folks will say it's...

    I LOVE my Maxtrax!

OK, silly video with fat guys, but I still don't know how tall they are when stacked.

    I LOVE my Maxtrax!

I'm interested in these but have limited storage space in my FWC rig. If I stack them on top of one another for storage, how tall are they?
