Anyone out there have any experience or opinions on the GMC 2500HD GAS 4X4?

Thinking about putting a FWC Hawk on one after installing a 6.5" BDS lift.

I pick up my new 2015 2500HD LTZ tomorrow. I also have a new 2015 Hawk going on it next week. I plan on keeping truck height stock though. Probably just line-x the bed and tint the windows and call it done.

Not quite the same but I've got a 2012 GMC 2500HD 4x4 6.0L gasser with a 2014 Hawk on board. Very nice package for my needs. Can run at 75-80 mph on the freeway and is reasonably capable off-road. Gas mileage is not great at 11-13 mpg. Would like a bigger fuel tank, with only 36 gals my range is more limited than I'd like.

Not sure about the lift, kind of defeats the purpose of the low-profile FWC. My truck grosses out at about 8800 lbs, so you're not going to be doing any serious wheeling with it and with the lift it will tend to be a bit unstable.

Thanks for the inputs, Guys.

How do you like the side dinette, PJ?
I figure if some can put a Hawk on a 1/2 ton, putting one on a 3/4 ton with a lift should be no problem?

... nice rig btw ...

Thanks, my wife and I really enjoy it. We don't have the side dinette, we went with the basic rollover couch. We camp mostly in good weather and want to be outside as much as possible. Lots of storage room under the couch that is lost if you go with a side dinette.

IMHO the 3/4 ton (lifted or not) is the ideal platform for a Hawk. Mine has a 9500 lb GVWR so we're well within that and I think a one-ton would be overkill.

gas is the way to go. i see too many issues with all the emissions stuff on the new diesels, and they don't get any real decent fuel mileage anymore. truck overall is a good platform, the 6.0 has been around a while like the 5.3 so its very solid. don't see many issues at all from them at my dealership. i've never owned one but fwiw from a tech's view, good truck.

If I could make the move to a '15 and a hawk camper, I'd get right to it.

I drive a classic (old style) 07 1500HD 6.0 and love most things about it. What would I change? 4wd would be nice but I get by alright with 2wd. I don't really care for the 6.5' bed but parking is easier. 3.73 gears aren't ideal. Gas milage? Hah!
Buying into a new '15 truck would afford me to fix these "issues". I could order one with 4wd, a long box, which in itself would be great but would also help with the fuel range and being a 2500 I would get the 4.10 gears. I'd still have the 6.0 gas mileage I have now but I can live with that over the issues of diesels (I also have a GM 6.5L and a duramax). I don't generally drive half tons, the bit more fuel far outweighs the lighter components and these hybrids/6 cyl turbos/engine fuel optimization tactics are too complicated for long term ownership IMO.

I've also been looking at and trying to find a pop up truck camper which I am not too picky about, get out of my current travel trailer.
