    Shovel / Axe Mount

Quickfist under the bed rail in my power wagon for an axe. Works well and keeps it out of the way.

Yeah. Quite chilly. No issues other than the insides of the windows icing up a bit even on full defrost. I stayed in hotels (truck was fully packed to make our return to the northern great land, so no room for even a sleeping bag to be layed out). The hotels I stayed at in Edmonton, Fort...

Offroad capability of full size truck

I drove from ND to AK leading up to that week. Chilly is a word. Frigid is more accurate. “Seriously f’ing freezing” is best. Ram thermometer stopped reading at -33F. Local weather showed -45F. Yes I went for a swim at the hot springs.

Offroad capability of full size truck

I’m not shy with taking our Power Wagon out on the stuff it’s capable of. That’s why we bought it, and knowingly took the obvious and glaring payload loss. But we wanted the crew cab (2 adults plus a tiny human and not tiny dog) and the capability vs payload and putting a camper on it full time...

    How to camp with dogs!

Yeah. Our trainer explained that was the point of the lead training away from the other stimulus, since that’s how he was before. Sniffing and chasing down anything he could try and find. The training seemed to work pretty well for us and I don’t regret the time put in. Don’t get me wrong...

    How to camp with dogs!

Oh did we have problems with this early on. Being over 100lbs at a year old, and anticipating the arrival of our daughter, we invested in some pretty dedicated training… which along the walking on a lead front included using a slip-type lead and taking our pup to the far corner of the local...

    How to camp with dogs!

Our family “pup” is a 130lb mastiff mix. He’s been through Canada to the lower48 and back, plus all the camping adventures. Crossing borders, I always carry his vet paperwork, as others have said. Never been asked elsewhere. Food (depending on length of trip) is usually in anything from a 2gal...

    Can we talk coffee brewing?

Aero press for all the reasons above. Depending on the trip, we may take the pour over with paper filters, the French press, and/or the percolator as well. But generally the aero press, one other “multi-serving” option, and via packets are always in the truck.

    For packing clothing...

Thank you, guys! Can’t wait to try out the kitchen bag next summer. Got it packed but haven’t gotten to play with it in the woods yet.

    For packing clothing...

So… just have to say that I’m unbelievably stoked with this so far as a flight/travel bag. It goes in the aircraft with me daily with all the stuff I’d need for 1-2days securely inside and I’ve bounced around on a couple few-day trips with it recently and it’s been fantastic. After spending so...

    Post up your drawer/storage system

Got the interior ARE rack modified a little. Added a mid-cross span just wider than our REI folding camp table, threw a piece of aluminum between that and the front span, and secured a net… now our table resides up and completely out of the way with room to stash other stuff up next to it in the...

Texas to Alaska to Texas. 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid driving on the Dalton Highway and the Dempster Highway. July/August 2023.

😍 Nice shot. Cold foot was an epicenter of helicopter activity last summer due to the Ambler Road project.

Texas to Alaska to Texas. 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid driving on the Dalton Highway and the Dempster Highway. July/August 2023.

What an awesome trip report and well documented! Glad you had such a great time. AK is a special place for sure (we live just outside of Anchorage…. I’m actually driving up twice from ND in the next 6 weeks. I’ll probably spend your total fuel budget just getting my power wagon up there 😂). But...

    Refrigerators

We bought once cried once. ARB zero 73L It’s been fantastic. Food for three or more for several days. Beer cold. Ice for cocktails. I put in a 100w solar panel and 110ah battery, mainly for the fridge. Served us well all summer. Wife approved. Seriously one of the best investments we’ve made...
