    Lets talk shovels

One of my friends was given the DMOS shovel. Takes a minute to put it together, and it looks like it would be much better for shoveling snow or sand than dirt or actual digging. Round point seems like a much better choice. Just my opinion.

New luxury Roof Top Camper soon on the market.

Yeah, I get that, and we discussed this recently. I'm sure there is a pretty big safety factor built into the manufacturer ratings. Clearly, my truck has been fine on plenty of trips with my RTT and gear. I'm sure mine is close to 200lbs, plus 40lbs for the Dissent Aluminum rack. I'm definitely...

New luxury Roof Top Camper soon on the market.

Yeah, that's the only one I know. The 200 series Cruiser is rated for about 200 pounds, I think. Of course, Redtail says the big one should only be mounted on trucks, vans, etc. The small one can go on midsize SUVs, and it's supposed to be 190lbs.

New luxury Roof Top Camper soon on the market.

I thought carbon fiber is supposed to be light. What truck, other than the new Defender, is rated for 250 pounds on the roof? My Alu-cab gen 3 is probably too heavy and it's aluminum (and less than 1/6th the price).

    Aluminium hardshell RTT in Canada

I have an Alu-cab Gen 3, for about 1.5 years with plenty of nights in it. I really like it. Had to make some upgrades that are more preferential but probably should be stock. Had to upgrade the mattress and get a telescoping ladder. The Alu-cab ladder is a great ladder, but worthless. Storing it...

"Best" fridge slide for Dometic CF50/CFX50 fridge?

Please post up your thoughts on the slide after your trip. Any complaints? I'm looking for a slide for my CFX50 as well. Thanks!

    Travel bed for kid

Is it a dog bed if a dog has never slept on it? It's not. It's just a compact mattress. We visited a friend in Dublin last year. He's single and never been around kids. We asked to see if he had a place our 2 year old could sleep. We've never shared a bed with our son. He borrowed a toddler...

alu cab expediton 3 my fourth and final RTT

Nice video review. I've had my Alu-cab since January and think it's totally worth the cost. Just curious how you mounted it to your prinsu rack. You didn't use the stock mounting brackets from Alu-cab. I've had mine mounted to some Alu-cab load bars on my 100, but just got a Dissent roof rack...

Do you guys use your HARDSHELL RTT in the winter?

My Alu-cab stays on the roof full time. If I had a tall enough garage and a lift, I'd consider pulling it off, but it's really too much trouble. As far as bedding goes, I leave it in the tent when I know I'm going camping often.

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

They are just plastic caps on the ends, and not part of the structure. I have used mine plenty, almost 8 months now, and haven't had any issues. Thanks though, I will keep an eye on them.

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

I removed the mount on the Alu-cab ladder and bolted it directly to the telescoping ladder I bought off Amazon.

Do you guys use your HARDSHELL RTT in the winter?

I agree 100%. The tent is there to keep you out of the elements. What you have inside the tent is what keeps you warm and toasty. I'll take my Alu-cab over the others any day. I've sat through a surprise winter storm in the 20s (Fahrenheit) with 35mph gusts with no complaints. The next morning...

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

The Dometic cover lid is a horrible design. I ended up cutting the sides at the seams, having the edges hemmed with some matching black material, and just using the Velcro attachments as a hinge. Now I have a single lid cover that opens with the lid of the fridge.

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

I love the Exped mattresses I have, but wanted a different option for my tent. I wanted to be able to climb right in without having to fiddle with under or over inflation. I swapped out the horrible stock mattress for a 3 inch perforated latex mattress topper in medium firmness. It's great. I...

    Completing your awning setup.

As far as filling the gap for runoff, that all depends on how the awning is installed and everyone might have their own solution. At some point, I'll cover the gap with a piece of fabric. Just long enough to lay across the awning and attach to my RTT with some Velcro on one side.

I use almost the exact same setup. They work great and put out just enough light.

Sure-Fire Ways to Improve Your Roof Top Tent

Everything is holding up well. No issues. Definitely happy that I cut the metal pulls off. Haven't been in a wind storm lately, but I do find that they are easier to see now and easier to use (not by any huge measure, but easier nonetheless).

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

I initially mounted mine on my 100 series Land Cruiser without a rack or load bars. I found that the tent sagged in the middle without support. I ended up adding load bars to support it.

Sure-Fire Ways to Improve Your Roof Top Tent

Added a fairing to the front of the Alu-cab RTT. A friend fabricated some brackets out of some steel angle. We also cut up a piece of ABS I had from another project. We followed the Gamiviti fairing template. I made a couple cross bars out of aluminum angle for stiffness. Barely any wind noise...
