Like the 200tdi? At least a Toyota owner can find a replacement head. The engines found in heavy duty Land Cruisers (1HZ, 1HD-T) often go over 1,000,000km without having the head removed.

Sounds like fuel gelling. Cruiser does the same thing if ant-gel isn't added to every tank. However, -4F isn't really that cold.

80 series with the 1HD-T and 1HZ had the bird feeder from the factory, I have both styles of snorkel top and I can't see a single difference from a function standpoint.

To be honest with you, none of those (with the exception of the ignition system) are small things. If someone were to wander over to the 80-Series forum on ih8mud and post that they had to replace those items, the entire place would be floored. An 80 isn't an expensive vehicle either, so that...

I hate to be such a downer in this thread, but overloading a 2LTE powered cruiser is an awful idea. Even GVW is too much for the engine if you encounter any large elevation increases. The engine is the major limiting factor with this truck. It's not reliable and isn't worthy of placement in...

I assume that you're referring to the upgraded cylinder head from the later engine as the 'fix' here. If so, it isn't proven. Replacement heads are well known to crack.

x2 Prado's are neat, but they are just not worth all the issues. A 2LTE powered cruiser does not make a good expo platform. HZJ77, HDJ81, even BJ74 or HZJ73 (although they are pretty small) are all much better options.

It takes me a little while to trust a new vehicle. With my 80, trust came after changing out the fluids and fixing a few little things on the truck. I think working on it lets me get to know the vehicle, and once I know it, I begin to trust it. Hopefully that makes sense. :)

The OP swapped a diesel into his Range Rover so I'm sure he's capable of doing the same with a cruiser if he chooses to.

Tried out my Fiskars this past week on a 5-day excursion and it was invaluable. There had been a recent windstorm in the area and every trail was littered with downed trees. No chainsaw (there will be next time) so the axe got a real workout.
