    Mantec Bridging Ladders

I have a set of the Mantec bridging ladders. They are definitely superior for true bridging purposes, even over doubled waffle boards. However, they're heavy and much more of a pain to use as simple sand mats than MaxTrax-style boards. On the other hand they double decently as tables or, with...

Craftsman MAX AXESS - socket set

I tested a Max Axess set pretty thoroughly some time ago, and came away less than impressed. It's an awkward system to use: Max Axess vs. alternatives

    The bottle jack, improved

I don't know if their holiday promotion is still on. Check the website.

    The bottle jack, improved

I think you'd find it far more versatile than an X-Jack, and far less hassle.

When only a hilift will do

Yes, we need more information! I'm assuming you used it as a casting jack and simply tipped it over toward the road?

    The bottle jack, improved

Hmm . . . I didn't bother weighing it. Will do so. Edit: The entire kit - including all the extensions and adapters, the small and large bases, the bottle jack, and the carrying bag, weighs 28 pounds.

    FS: J.W. Hulme duffel

I have two of these superb U.S.-made duffels, and this one has never been used, so I thought I'd offer it here. The J.W. Hulme duffel is without doubt the best there is, like a Filson duffel on steroids. Full leather bottom, leather trim, heavily reinforced. You could keep it pristine for use in...

    The bottle jack, improved

I thought about that, but then tried to think of ever hearing about a bottle jack ram bent in the field, and couldn't recall an instance. But certainly if you stacked extensions considerable extra caution would be mandated.

    The bottle jack, improved

I've been using the Hi-Lift Safe Jack for six months now, and I'm still impressed with it. It's not for every situation, but it's simple to unhook the cables and use it as a load-spreading base.

    The bottle jack, improved

I've written before about Bogert Manufacturing, specifically their Safe Jack system for the Hi-Lift jack (here). The company has just introduced a new Safe Jack system for the ubiquitous bottle jack, and it hugely increases the versatility of that tool. If you've ever balanced a bottle jack on a...

    The best adventure travel boots.

Wow, Christophe. That's the first time I've heard anyone mention Fabiano in a long time. I wore Fabiano Rias for years. A step down from the Mountain Masters, but still stout. An equivalent today would be Limmers.

Storage solution for a sturdy outdoor table

We've been looking for a replacement for our cheap blue vinyl rollup table, and found the Front Runner stainless and aluminum model. Expensive but indestructible and rock-solid: However, storage was a problem. So I used the brackets supplied by FR for their roof rack to mount the table under...

FWC on a 2013 Tacoma regular cab? Looking for advice...

"Smaller Tacoma engine?" Shoot: Roseann and I hauled our first FWC (Eagle) for six years with a 1992 Toyota pickup and a 22RE engine. Yes, it had a manual transmission, but we're talking 116 horsepower here. When we swapped it to a 2000 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 and an automatic the combination...

Maxtrax vs TRED vs Tracmats vs X-Trax vs X-Jack

I still give him grief about that. He always protests, "But, it was Geoff's!"
