Newbie here looking to buy a Travelall.

I must have confused Traveler with Travelall then. I was talking about the stretched Scout II diesel.

How many miles is to many on Subaru's

No amount of miles is "too many" on most any car, as long as it's properly maintained. In my opinion the concept of a car gradually deteriorating with age is a misnomer that stems from peoples tendency to allow their cars to deteriorate rather than repair things as they wear/break. Personally...

In some sense a turbo car might actually be able to handle lower octane gas than an N/A one, since they have a lower static compression ratio and only require the extra octane when running high boost, which is adjustable. The low octane gas issue should be easy to overcome if you can reduce the...

    Mercedes W123 Expedition 300TD

I love your car and your travels Blurg! I consider it inspiration for my Volvo wagon expedition vehicle, and planned trip to South America with my wife. I have a few questions if you have time: 1) Have you looked into any locking differential or limited slip options for this car? Are you...

I'm pretty sure they both had the same motor. What's infamous about it besides relatively low horsepower? I haven't owned one, but my understanding is the SD33 is a very high quality motor widely used in industrial and marine applications, and parts are widely available.

Newbie here looking to buy a Travelall.

I think the rare turbo diesel Travelall would be the ultimate expedition vehicle if parts for it were more readily available.

    Volvo Wagon Expedition Vehicle

This is 2wd (rear wheel drive) with a locker. The 30mpg fully loaded will be with a stickshift transmission and diesel engine. My other Volvo (1984 760GLE Turbo Diesel with manual transmission) easily gets 30mpg+ fully loaded and driving 85mph. This car as is with the current engine...

    Volvo Wagon Expedition Vehicle

I've been all over Baja and various offroad places all over the west coast and haven't been stuck in years- not since I installed the locker in 2007. I toyed with the idea of building a custom 4wd Volvo, but for my purposes I now think the extra weight, maintenance, worse fuel economy, and...

Anyone tried these Red Wing boots ??

Red wings are crap IMO. I used them for years and a pair would last me about ~6-10 months of daily use. Then my wife got me a pair of Vibergs for my birthday back in winter 2007 and they're still barely broken in, and look like new.

    Volvo Wagon Expedition Vehicle

    Camping Lab RTT in CA?

They shipped it air freight, and it was delivered straight to my house on a truck from the local airport, for free. The site says "now taking preorders" but it arrived just 10 days after I placed the order. I'll post a write up/review once I get a chance to sleep in it. The quality is much...
