    Polluting vehicle restrictions in Europe

Yes I also have a classic MR2 next to our 4x4 diesel. But you also post a Prius on a race track. And a Model 3 next to an RS6. The big news should be that there are now commuter cars almost as fast as an RS6. This Model 3 is sold a lot, it is very fast, yet it can be the most efficient car on...

    Recirculating Showers?

I am building my own right now, for our off-grid home. For shorter trips lets say a couple of months, I think it is not worth it. Better keep it simple. If you sold your house to live in a van, than it is a good idea.

Is 4x4 really necessary for a cabover build?

Every car has its limits. As the saying goes, a 4x4 only gets you stuck further away from home. Drive the car within the limits, problem solved. And a 2wd is certainly not limited to the tarmac. You could check to add a locker, so you still come out cheaper than a 4x4. However, I read about a...

    Polluting vehicle restrictions in Europe

Wow, this is the dumbest/fastest topic derailment I have seen in a while. I am reading several posts about petrol cars beating electric cars in racing applications, from a guy who drives a 6x6 equivalent of a coal power plant which will not make any speed, and would probably only beat a...

    Suggestions to Improve Hiace Clearance

Which model do you have? From the tiny pic it doesn't look like a super custom. They come with coil or with leaf springs. Always Torsion in the front. Ours is with leaf suspension. We raised it roughly 8 Or 9 cm. Half of that in suspension, half with 225/75R16 wheels, which indeed required...

    Front Locker is it needed?

Yes very true, but my 75 horsepower had to drive something above 2500kg 4x4 camper :p Yes of course it is an upgrade, and it will do nicely. However, talking about what a necessity is, no I believe it is not. Because people are spending thousands of dollars on there cars, which in fact itself...

    Front Locker is it needed?

@Bul : well, if you got stuck on your transfercase, it kind of proves a point :D I don't know. I drove that thing with a whopping 75 horsepower through mud and over sand dunes and high mountain ridges. Lockers are just one thing. A lift, better shocks. Anybody mentioned a whinch? One on the...

    Front Locker is it needed?

I went all over Asia with only a small lift and only having a standard central locker, low gearing and an air compressor. Certainly less horsepower and ground clearance than the trucks I see here. It is complete (edited by admin - language- on notice) that you would need amything more. That...

Could These Guys Really Be the Next Serious Contender for Electric 4WD Trucks?

@Frenyeah but how often do you drive those 800 miles in a day? And with a Tesla you can already do that. Just not with a 4x4 truck yet. But when all of these will be available, with some you will be able to do it. Next to that, since most trips are pretty short and certainly don't require 4x4...

    Am I nuts?

So to conclude, if you replace engine and gearbox on this car, then yes you are nuts :)

    Porsche Macan?

Probably compared to the current Cayenne and not to the first gen Cayenne which has an actual low gear and center lock.

    Rivan - Tank Turn

I have done two large roadtrips through Asia, and that was with 4x4s that have less range on diesel than the top model of Rivian. And it allowed me to get to enough places. Whenever you find a gas station there is also usually electricity, although that will be slow.

    INEOS Grenadier

There are a lot of new companies popping up, and most of them are using an electric drivetrain. And frankly, that makes more sense than this. Because it is easier to start from scratch than with a conventional drivetrain. Next to that, how would you get something like this qualified as safe...

Base truck for custom overland build - how big is too big?

If you have only a week-or-two trips in next years, you will only spent those free days building the truck instead of using it. Let me tell you about us and friends of us. We met on overland trip in Asia, when we all didn't have kids. After the trip we all got kids, bought house and sold our...

Base truck for custom overland build - how big is too big?

It is not clear to me how long you plan to be on the road. A month here, a month there. Or evry year half a year on the road? Or basically just a couple of weeks per year? If you decide to drive to South America at some point, that is for another time. You can always change vehicles.

Base truck for custom overland build - how big is too big?

Well, can't you fit it all in a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4? Perhaps the 5 ton version, and choose the biggest engine. That will be much more drivable and less consuming than a real truck, and it will still do fine once you leave the tarmac roads. And it will be serviceable. The Unimog is on the other...

where are the Porsche cayenne expo builds?

Well, a bit strange to not have an H4 mode as refered to in old-style 4x4s, but okay, it will work. @Dave Waldo What do you know about the original controller of the rear diff lock? Couldn't you get it with the diff? I would assume it either has some simple 12v or ground lines, or vacuum or CAN...

Camper Build for JDM 4x4 Toyota Dyna Truck

I don't get it either. Our Hiace has a very similar diff 43102-35010. Which is an LSD. And the axle code is G255 on VIN plate, which is a standard G axle and 8 inch diff like on many 4x4 Toyota's.

    Q-LJ78G concerns

Yeah these engines, fitted with turbo, can develop head problems. I agree with above.
