Question for those that have used the Timbren suspension system...

Thank you for the responses. More or less confirmed my estimations. Going to give them a buzz during lunch tomorrow to confirm selection, but looks like a 3500HD kit will be in my garage soon. Taking lots of photos and notes and will post a build breakdown when I am done. Working in stages, but...

Question for those that have used the Timbren suspension system...

What capacity did you use and what was the overall weight? Also how did it preform? I can't seem to find any information on what the sweet spot is for the system... (eg. overall weight 70% of capacity). Building a teardrop and hoping to get it ordered in the next day or two but seems to me there...

    APRS Dog Collar

I played with it a bit. Just got back from a Death Valley trip today where I tested it out and results were mediocre but this was more of a proof of concept. I took apart a Baofeng uv5r to slim it up and remote mount a battery and made a cable to connect to an old android phone running APRSdroid...

    APRS Dog Collar

Sorry forgot to mention in my last post. I looked at Byonics and did not see anything that was of appropriate size for a collar with GPS. For back packing and throwing a dog pack on her I could see their products working particularly with a decent sized battery that would last a couple days...

    APRS Dog Collar

AU5SIE or P4NDA. Vanity callsign TBD I literally found the Pico APRS last night and could not find anything else that was better suited as an already built unit. Regarding the 10 hr battery life from my reading, you are right about the .5 watt TX but also combined with the "energy saving"...

    APRS Dog Collar

Hey all, Just wanted to share a little project I'm working on while learning to play with APRS. I'm a fairly new HAM with about 6 months under my belt, primarily playing with the WIN system repeater network. Anyways as I dive down the rabbit hole of HAM, the more use I find for every day life...

    Pulled Baofeng Post

Missed your thread but I can confirm the frequency limitations. Have UV-5R V2+ and unlike my older UV-5R it will not reach down past 145mhz. With chirp you can program it to go lower to listen to 144.39 paired to APRSdroid but no transmitting. Really the only annoying thing about the firmware...

Heavy sliders not smart for long-term overlanding?

Just an observation, 100lbs worth of sliders does not translate to 100lbs of payload being sucked up. Since you are removing the existing steps you can subtract that weight. eg 100lbs sliders - 40lbs steps = 60lbs gain. It is not quite as dramatic as it is often made out to be. Best thing to do...

    Watches - ExPo Style

I've only really been wearing watches for the last 2 years. Previously had a Timex, no idea what model beyond that it was analog, but it was a victim of water intrusion and died. Replaced it with a Seiko SKA 703 that I wear every day. Only comes off when I'm sleeping or working in the garage or...

    LED Headlight Converion Bulbs?

For two vehicles. My Hilux I'm currently planning on the Trucklite v7 7" rounds. It's still a few months off from rolling down the road, so if something better came to market in that time I'd be interested. I've seen Trucklite has a new version on the way. My B4000 is really the vehicle this...

    LED Headlight Converion Bulbs?

Good info. Thank you for clarifying that. I wonder if you could rig up a washer jet to de-ice and keep them clear. A mix of isopropyl alchol and windshield washer fluid would probably do it. Kind of a home brew version of propylene glycol like is used to prevent ice build up on planes.

    LED Headlight Converion Bulbs?

I wasn't aware that Phillips was working on this. Good to hear someone is trying to do it right instead of just making a part that looks like it will work and slapping "offroad only" on it. Will have to follow developments. Good point about not having the heat to melt snow off. Having said...

    LED Headlight Converion Bulbs?

Has anyone seen these in use in person? I'm really curious about the beam pattern. Seems light a great idea but I'm concerned that they would suffer the same light scatter issues that HID conversion kits do. For those that don't know, HID kits change the position of the point of light emission...

    Radius Arm Suspension

No one has any thoughts on a radius arm suspension? I think biggest benefit is you can have the frame closer to the frame than a leaf setup yielding a lower deck height while maintaining up travel. Not as fancy as an independent trailing arm setup but I imagine as effective as anything else...

    Radius Arm Suspension

After I wrap up my current truck project I'm thinking about building a gear trailer. I have some FZJ80 radius arms left over from an abandoned project and I'm thinking they would be good to re-purpose for this application in a trailing arm arrangement. I'm thinking that it would allow for more...

    Apple Watch and its competitors

Too bad this thread went this way so quickly... Hopefully we can get back on track because it is cool new tech. Samsung is on it's second generation of smart watches already. They also offer 4 entirely different models not simply different wrist bands. Apple is the one late to the game on this...

Thinking of an Asus Memo Pad ME176C 7" or ME181C 8"; anyone using one?

I'm not using either of those models but I have an Asus ME301T which is pretty closely related. I've had it for about a year now and it does everything I ask of it generally without issue. My only real complaint is that Asus doesn't have the aftermarket support Samsung or Nexus products have...
