If you go chainsaw, buy some chaps at a minimum. Face shield would be a plus.
The electric chain saws are dangerous because they have so much torque, most (all?) of the tear away chaps that can stop a chainsaw and prevent serious injury are ineffective against electric chain saws.
For small...
I think I’ve priced everything competitively based on previous sales and stale eBay listings (tried to undercut those!). If you feel otherwise, send me a PM and an offer.
OEM Dog/Cargo Divider, has 2 brackets. Will require some bolts from a hardware store and some DIY brackets, or buy a...
This gutter mount kit came off a Land Rover Discovery II, though it should work for any vehicle with roof gutters. Looks like it will put the bottom of a rack at approximately 10” above the gutters.
Could be used with an ARB rack or as brackets for a DIY rack.
As best I can tell this kit is...
I’m trying to find the largest cooler which fits in a 16” deep x 20” wide space. It could maybe squeeze to 16.5” x 20.5”. Height isn’t very problematic, there’s easily 28” of space.
We are a family of 3 and camp predominately in the Pacific Northwest (cool summers) for 2-3 days at a time. So we...
There IS a cooling system. There’s also a battery management system, a charging system, high voltage wiring, 4 motors (and 4 single speed transfer cases), etc. It’s conceptually simpler than ICE, but there is plenty to maintain.
FWIW I have an R1S order.
From what I’ve seen and read on Rivian Forums, you can transfer the account to another party by updating the delivery info and changing the password. So far Rivian has looked the other way; I suspect that policy may start getting enforced now with the pricing changes.
Looking forward to my order a little less after that pricing debacle, but I’m glad Rivian attempted to unring the bell.
I think most people would have accepted a modest increase, especially if the company telegraphed it in advance, but an unsigned email telling you to check your account for...
I just installed an Interstate H8 AGM a few weeks ago. The previous Interstate H8 flooded battery (4 years old) was only charging to 12.3v and dropping to 11.7v after sitting for a couple weeks —it still started up just fine but was getting tired. I think if it were the standard H7 size it would...
Good question.
For identical materials (and rope manufacturer) the breaking strength will be the same. This is the “ultimate” load a given rope is expected to withstand before failing.
The differences between shackle suppliers (when using the same diameter and brand of dyneema) comes down to...
Ground tent for the win. I think most people overlook this item when drooling over the RTT.
Now, being a mountaineer, not wanting to go outside during a snowstorm or when it’s 0 degrees presents a similar problem. A wide mouth Gatorade bottle is great. You drink the Gatorade on the hike in and...
That other thread is a good start, but I’ll add some tips here:
-Amstel Blue (dyneema) is the material of choice
-WLL is doubled for shackles because the shackle is effectively two loops of material
-Knot choice varies, I used the half-button based on my research
-Marine supply shops are a...
First pass at my own soft shackle. 3/8” dyneema, with an 8” diameter. I intended to make two 4” shackles but I was short about 2’ of rope due to underestimating how much was needed for the knot and end splice.
Thanks for the explanation, I knew there was more to it.
My ARB half rack is 63lbs, that eats up a lot of the roof loading, so I can understand wanting to limit rack weight. I’m fabricating my own mounts for it to connect to the OEM rails so as to keep it as tight as possible.
Curious what the benefit of the OEM rack is over the Front Runner? I’ve always liked the fit and finish of the OEM basket, but I’d think you’d lose a lot of that by removing the top rail, so I assume the platform itself is better in some way?
I keep waiting for an OEM rack to surface for sale...
