Need some help pickin a BURB

So, I was at Mtnman's property last weekend, and we started thinking about the thickness of frames, since he has a Chevy Grave Yard, we took some measurements. All the measurements were taken on the right frame rail, in front of the front crossmember and behind the bumper. There is some minor...

Need some help pickin a BURB

No 2500 would be a th400, 1500 would be 700R4 or th350. Frame is thicker on the 2500 than the 1500 according to all the spec manuals I've seen. The other changes are all easily verified from an autozone, etc. The radiators are bigger, they would typically have a towing package, etc etc...

Need some help pickin a BURB

i would only consider a 3/4 ton. Just for the transmission and stouter frame alone. Better towing package usually, oil cooler, tranny cooler, bigger radiator, etc. All things that would add up if purchased separately. Got a pic of the captain chair setup or link to that add? Not factory but...

interior spare tire tie down ideas?

ouch, exactly what I'm worried about. Don't want a 100+ pound missile coming towards my head or a passengers. maybe I'll loop the straps around the rim opening so they can't just release the tire like happened to yours. Not really sure what to do here.

The Suburban back end door debate

spray it with some windshield washer fluid, when it goes down, spray the weatherstripping with silicone. In fact by us in chicago ALL the doors, windows, etc freeze when the truck gets warm, melts the snow and then it freezes into ice. Spraying silicone spray stops that from happening.

interior spare tire tie down ideas?

just worried with the weight of the tire and rim that those mounts would rip out in short order. This is a 35" tire, not a 29" like stock. That's why I was thinking D rings and a ratchet strap, but maybe the body panel would support this thing yanking on them?

Replacing Tranny in '90 Sub, Do I run Synthetic? looking for Tips and Tricks too

just run old dex 3 and change it often, pocket the extra and smile. Get a deep trans pan with fins, preferably aluminum, run a BIG aftermarket trans cooler as well and install a trans temp gauge. The money you'd waste on the fluid can be put towards these upgrades.

interior spare tire tie down ideas?

interior spare tire tie down ideas?

Thinking of buying some D-rings for the floor and using the 1" wide ratchet straps to hold down a spare tire. Anyone else have suggestions on better options that may be available besides drilling holes through the floor with large fender washers and mounting it to two or three of them? Figure...

    6.5 or 454?

do a 5.3L or 6.0L swap, either motor makes more power/torque than the old 454 and mileage is much much better. So is turning the key and it starts in half a second too.

The Suburban back end door debate

the tailgate in my 88 suburban closes SMOOOTHLY. Not hard to close or lift up, i don't see what the issue is at all. Maybe you need to grease your hinges or lube them, this one is just as easy as opening/closing the liftgate on our brand new suburban as well.

    1988 1 ton suburban buildup

Little update: Radiator is fine, fans kick on at 210 degrees now(found out the factory gauge isn't very accurate and reads higher than it should by 25 degrees once warm), and tuned the truck with a wideband, it was very rich from the factory at cold startup and during wide open throttle. We put...

    1988 1 ton suburban buildup

oh no, the clutch fans are a thing of the past, this won't rob any power while the fan is off, and it clears up a bunch of room in front of the engine. You can "kinda" see it in the one pic, these modern motors sure add wires/hoses/ etc all over what was my clean engine bay LOL.

    post your Suburban pics

4" lift? you got a build thread on it? Nice rear bumper and I like the roof topper, you ever fill the whole suburban up to need that much room though lol. Can't imagine mine ever being that packed.

    1988 1 ton suburban buildup

fan shroud for an electric fan? The fan is basically the size of the radiator, it has no overheating issues, and we've done tons of these swaps in other vehicles. In fact this radiator is 2/3rd the size of the OEM radiator from before, might upgrade it to a huge all aluminum radiator if...

    1988 1 ton suburban buildup

well i chose the 5.3L because it makes more than enough power/torque for me and gets better mileage than the 6.0L by 2 or 3 sometimes on the highway from what I've seen. I drove it today to get the remote starter reprogrammed, now I'm all set for winter. The fan isn't coming on so sunday a...

Took some quick pics today before I put the truck back on the ground off the jackstands. Some people have PM'd me about the exhaust, so I got those shots as well.
