@Curly42 We typically cruise around 65-70 miles per h and I have never calculated the mpg's (of any of my vehicles). Doesn't feel particularly high even when pushing it, like on recent a run from NYC over the turnpike.

@mk216v I agree that theOM606A combo makes most sense, despite everyone's knee jerk reaction (including mine) is a V8. You are correct that I had it painted witch a roller in stead of sprayed. I was going for a more rugged look that could take a beating and be repainted easily as needed. No...

LOL. We are getting ready for full time world travel for several years in the Unimog. Going to miss the “little” guy, but since we don’t know when we will be back it makes sense to sell.

Recommendations for replacement Battery for Unimog 1300 in the USA

@charlieaarons I currently have the standard, Mercedes branded OEM batterie. 2 batteries, each 12 V and 125 ah. Commonly referred to as NATO block. Obviously not made by Mercedes, I believe Varta makes them, but Varta’s are not available in the USA...

Recommendations for replacement Battery for Unimog 1300 in the USA

Thanks everyone. Our Swiss Army Puch came with Austrian made AGMs. Will have to look where to find some AGMs locally on the east coast. I am a little reluctant to go lithium on the chassis side. I deliberately chose the Unimog without electronics for best reliability in remote and rugged...

Recommendations for replacement Battery for Unimog 1300 in the USA

@REF looking for starter side. In the house, I have 1 year old Victron lithium batteries. I hope that they’ll be good for another 9+ years. Seem like Interstate is the consensus between you and @DiploStrat. Several folks in the German Unimog community have gone the Optima Red Top way, as...

Recommendations for replacement Battery for Unimog 1300 in the USA

It seems that the truck batteries in my Unimog are starting to approach end of life. Any suggestions for reliable batteries available in the USA that require little or no modifications to the battery box/tray. Thanks! Dirk

    MB Truck vs Unimog

Unimog owner here. i think the NG/SK trucks will be slightly more economical, take a little bit less involvement (maintenance/complexity), and are a little less cool ? If you want a longer box, an Unimog is not the right choice for you. Go for the ’normal’ MB. You will be able to go most...

I just bought a firetruck for a custom overland build!

Sorry to hear about your experience Geo.Lander. As it was my first build, I had tons of questions (some probably stupid ones too). They had to coordinate between Hellgeth, who made the custom subframe and my builder Joko, while I was far away in the Staates. Still amazed that it all came...

I just bought a firetruck for a custom overland build!

I would recommend talking to HaJo and Andreas at Boxmanufaktur. They are located near Bremen (Denmark adjacent) in Germany and also have a location in Las Vegas in case you change your plan and have the habitat built after import. They are not the cheapest, but from my own experience, their...
