I am not sure if I ever met Ken but I have read many, many of his posts. Sorry for your and all of our loss.
I was at the St Louis start to see my friend and mentor Rick Martin off in '07. He also rode in '05 and his bike, a Yamaha FJR, did a 3rd IBR with Chris McGaffin aboard in '09.
I have...
He has changed bikes over the last few years. He might be back on a Wing again for all I know. Anyway coax away. It would be a hoot to see him on a trail with a bike :)
LOL. Small world. Where you in Denver or the finish in Spartanburg? Greg Roberts scored me in Denver and Dale Wilson in Spartanburg.
These days I split my time between TN and Fl but make a point to be in Fl around pizza time.
Edit: I just noticed where you are. Where you at the 2011 IBR start...
When you guys next see Greg, ask him about the end of day two of the IB 5000, The fuel log for SLC to Denver leg was quite entertaining at the scoring table.
I hope to see him in Daytona at Stavros Pizza again this year.

I am very pleased with the Diamond lip mount on my rear hatch of my t4r.
I run a Comet SSB 1. It is a very short dual band antenna tho.

Can't help with your problem but as a new and very green TM-D710G owner I would appreciate a link to the APRS YouTube tutorial. I haven't used APRS yet.
Thanks
Between these two mounting locations, rear lip of hood near fender or high on rear hatch, which is favored?
Fender is not an option on my T4R.
A Comet SSB1 rubber ducky will be used on the trail and Larson 2/70 31" whip for the open road.
Ok, good info I am sure. But ya'll have officially reached over my head levels. I'll return to lurk mode now, carry on.
Bill, Ih8mud is a bit dated and LC focused but I did see one or two earlier Gen T4R antenna mount examples. Several lip on hatch arrangements.
Looking forward CFW and what...
Thanks Bill, for the heads up re: Bob aka Tennmogger. I'll tell him you sent me ;) I noticed in another thread, Thanksgiving camping?, he lives near me? Well, maybe a county or two away.
CBI seems to be the only ditch light bracket builder for a T4R. It attaches to the hood hinge but the user...
Unfortunately, no. I am currently in Florida visiting my wife's extended family. I can't do much T4R/Ham wise except to scheme and overthink the project. CB and FRS will be my only comms at CFW.
See ya late Fri night Jan 13. Bella, the 10 wk old Lab/Shepard and I, will try not to wake you...
Ain't that the truth. :)
In spite of the hatch/hood mount I once had self destructing, I'll probably try another. Maybe the Diamond K400 I have looked at will be up to the task. I'll try a ducky too and keep the longer Larson for on road duty as appropriate.
All that remains is to decide where...
I do not have a after market roof rack or basket on my T4R, nor do I wish to get one, but I do have factory rails with (alum) crossbars. I am wondering if mounting square of steel mesh to the crossbars would provide a sufficient antenna ground plane? The steel mesh I have available is what is...
