thanks for all the advice everyone. as far as budget i'm looking in the 4000 range. I know that's not much however that's the price range for some first gen grands, but after reading this I may wait for a while and get a second gen xterra. they are around 6500-10,000.

also I would just want to build it into a camping expo rig. not a rock crawler or anything.

I use my nokia 822 for any type of road trip when a gps is needed. it has the here navigation that doesn't use your data. as far as off road stuff i'm going on a trip at the end of January where there is no cell towers so i'll let you know how it turns out.

I have a Lenovo yoga 13" ultrabook and absolutely love it. It's touch screen and the keyboard folds back to make it interact like a tablet. As far as it being solid it traveled with me everyday for a year back and forth to work. Its been tossed in my jeep, taken in the woods and everywhere else...

I thought the same thing as the OP. I had a 01 with an l6 and bow have an 07 3.8 with 4.10 gears with 35"s. Its not as peppy as my last jeep however I don't expect to get a speeding ticket in a wrangler anyways haha. On the trail I've had enough power to get thru everything that's been in front...
