I'm running 18s myself because the tire selection for 38" tires sucks with 16" wheels but if I was sticking with 35" or smaller tires I would go with 16" wheels. Or 17" wheels if I could find any I liked. I'm running 35x12.5x18" BFG KM3 tires in the photo above. New tires are 38x13.5x18"...

Almost forgot, the bumper is something I picked up from gfg.de but I believe JackWagonOverlanding was also looking into becoming a vendor for them in the US. I can't remember the actual brand. Unless you want to do some serious work I wouldn't shoot for larger than 33", or if you don't mind...

I ended up going with 18" wheels as I couldn't find 38" tires I liked for 16" wheels. Running 38" Toyo Open Country MTs currently.

If you upgrade your wheels watch the backspacing to make sure the tire can get right up behind your fender flare (which is a little wider on the AMG models). I know someone above mentioned modifying an AMG for off-road is a fools-errand but I have found the whole process quite enjoyable.

The rear doesn't articulate a ton, but I get by. The front does quite well now with the sway bar removed.

I just went through this decision myself. I like the robust 5 speed trans, and prefer the drivability of superchargers (although turbos do handle the altitude changes better) so I was pretty set on a 2005-2011 G55 and ended up finding a nice low miles 2011 G55. You'll need to swap the shocks...

Definitely not louder than no exhaust at all. It actually sounds great on startup and idling, but if I barely touch the gas it gets super loud.

Another local G, awesome. There are two of us up in Nederland that wheel our G-wagens, hit me up sometime if you want to hit the trails with us. I just removed that exhaust (way too loud) from mine and went back to stock but if you want to try before you buy you are welcome to grab my MBRP...

I went with 35" KM3's on some craigslist 18" wheels. I really like them, too bad they don't make a 37-38" version for the 16" Huthinson's I am going to upgrade to when I install my portals. Not sure what tire I am going to use next but the KM3 is surprisingly quiet for such an aggressive tire.

Darn, I just returned a set of Ohlins for being too short and swapped them out to KW shocks. Wish I would have realized Ohlins could custom make them longer, if so I would have just kept them as I love the feel of Ohlins suspension. Beautiful build.

I wonder if these would clear the front brakes on a 2007-2011 G55. I love the 17" wheel size for tire selection as well.

So I just did this yesterday and it worked great. Since I had adjustable rods I just set the config to 175 per corner, then adjusted the rods until the height was correct. I now have much more usable range, thank you.

One more idea for fun, fake hard buttons for the tool. I have noticed looking in sensor settings that you can see when various buttons are pushed. You could use that knowledge to capture buttons pressed in a way we would never press them in day to day usage, and trigger a setting in the tool...
