    Samurai vs sidkick/tracker

Just went through this myself, wound up with a Sammy tin top. Watch the modded ones for ability to smog in our area; some will be hard to get back to smog. Tracker will be more comfy and a better rig on the highway. My Sammy is a 50-55mph vehicle after mods and 31's. Most rigs I found were in...

12V Compressor vs HP Air Tanks - Pros & Cons?

Whichever way you choose, do not skimp on the air hose you buy. The little yellow $7 ones from the hardware store will fail when you least expect it. Go to a hydraulic hose shop or truck stop and get the good coiled 25 ft or so hose and put your choice of fittings on it. I like the QD...

    Power tools on the trail

Cordless sawzall, several blades, couple batteries. Cuts branches, firewood, occasional bolt or metal. Hint: take a pruning blade for green wood, branches, etc. Cuts several times better than a wood blade. A fine tooth (24t) bimetal blade will handle almost all metal cutting needs.

    Gearing up for Baja 1000?

Realizing this post is old but Kurt's post hit the nail on the head. I have over 10 years experience chasing class 7,8, and Trophy trucks over Baja and however you want to look at it-this is how it is done. I have yet to hear of one problem regarding radio use in Baja with any authorities...

Saw this dealer from Jackson at Boise last weekend. Nice display and very friendly staff. Very easy to talk to and seemed to know the products well.

Snow Peak Dutch Oven -- Opinions?

I have an older cast iron pot with a domed lid and no legs. I took a 1" steel strap and formed it into a circle and pop riveted it together. Then used some 1" square tubing cut into 2" lengths and stacked to replace the legs. I now can put coals on the lid or the pot on coals; or use it on...

    100W Portable kit on ebay

Looking at these to help with charging the batteries in my tent trailer. Do not want a fixed mount, prefer to keep it portable for any use. How are you folks transporting these without damage? Would making a small angle iron frame to mount it in on the back of the tent trailer work? I have...

    Shower tents and privys

I am dragging my Cabella's Trekker tent back to the store tomorrow. Just set it in the garage and can't fold it back up. Watched 8 videos on how to's but didn't help. At 7' tall it won't fit in the truck so it will get tied to the hitch and drug back for a refund. Can't believe that with 60...

Is there a buyers guide or FAQ for refrigerators?

I think the hardest thing my wife and I will have to learn is that we don't have to have everything we want cold in the cooler at once. As we use a half day or so of drinks, we can refill and cool them down from ambient temperature. Or possibly even make ice for a drink cooler.

Just purchased a Military trailer to build a family hauler

On one of my prior M100 trailers I made a swing out lantern/coat/towel/whatever holder. Took a T hinge and welded some 1/8 x 1 steel strap to it and notched a groove near the end. Sorry, no pics of it survived. You could mount it to your uprights and fold it out of the way when not in use. A...

    Bantum M100 Fenders...Need Wider Pieces

Early CJ 5 rubber fender flares fit perfectly on the M100 fenders. You can also weld a band of metal into the fender very easily to widen them.

Big O tire stores, Quality store branded tires?????

Have had over 20 years worth of great service from Big O tires. Dealer service and support and warranty are top level. Currently on Les Schwab tires as that is what the truck came with. Both Big O and Les Schwab are a more local brand in the Northwest.

Onboard Air Question: How to keep exposed quick disconnects clean?

I just use another qd fitting with a pipe cap on the threads. The steel caps tend to be large so I find the brass caps that are smaller. I paint the caps red to stand out.

    Jumping Jack Trailer......build?

If you look hard at the construction, quality of workmanship, components, etc the cost is a bit more justified. All metal is powdercoated, not painted for instance. Inner table, carpet, spare wheel/tire & mount, outer table and legs, loading ramp stops, are all included in the base price...

Lipstick on a Pig: The 10 Don'ts of Vehicle Modifications

Many places I go to have lousy cell service coverage. Southern Idaho and Northern Nevada. I can leave my house and be out of cell service in 20 minutes. In some places I cannot reach a 2M repeater or even a 440 repeater. I carry a CB, dual band mobile, and FRS handhelds along with my cell so...

    Homemade Roofracks.

Couple of thoughts after building a few racks: have made several from 1" square steel tubing but do not like the fact that most ratchet straps and tie downs with an S hook end will not fit over 1". Use 3/4" top rail or where straps may go and they fit fine. If you use galvanized tube, the...

self extracting from mud without a winch

Many military manuals from the 40-50's show this concept for getting unstuck. Many military vehicles of that era had holes in heavy metal end caps on the axles for that reason.

    Jevy's humble M-416 build thread

Jevy, nice build and I can share the pain of a ruptured disc surgery. Mine was done in Nov. and just now able to return to work. Some thoughts for you to consider in no order. The marker lights in the lid are all amber, shoudn't the rear most ones be red? On the taillights, a little silicone...
