that advice on shaft length was similar from Hardy-Spicer workshop. Not essential but might as well while it was being rebuilt given the amount of wear.
the splines on my front prop shaft were worn. Vibration above 20km/hr became obvious with new, raised, parabolics.
My home is Brisbane. Hardy Spicer workshop just a few km away. Rebuilt and lengthened the shaft a bit plus added a rubber boot over the splines. Sounded like they could rebuild...
well done. I don't know about you but fault finding those maizes can be quite hard as not only is it a maize the results of tests can often seem to conflict - there's that horrible thought of going mad. Trying to do it over a forum can be diabolical.
Lights on without fuse blowing is fairly...
hard to concentrate in the cold .... but at least its easier to put clothes on to get warm, there's a limit to taking them off to get cool!
sounds valid to me. Red meter wire on battery side of fuse, no fuse in place, black wire for meter on other side. If 12v then black side is at ground.
Be...
I wish I'd known that's where the dome light is powered from a couple of years ago. I'm still chasing shorts from near fire. The fuse in the under dash fuse box melted and didn't blow. So the wire melted and took a few others with it. All with ignition off = near fire. Took out lots of the...
is there an electrical connection for a trailer?
But back to the difference between "control" circuit and "power" circuit.
The daylight stuff is just another way of turning the power circuit to the lights on. Just another way of switching the relay that supplies power to the lights.
Since its...
this is either the ramblings of a deranged mind or some useful fault finding tricks.
my mental picture is of "control" wires and "power" wires. The control wires have switches and operate relays. The power is turned on at the relays.
Unfortunately some circuits are like that, others are just a...
if my maths is correct ..... 50 litres of water cooling from 70 deg C to 20 deg C loses 3 kWh of heat. Depends on the container how fast. Wrap insulation round sides but not top? Roughly the equivalent of running a 300w 12v heater for 10 hours.
Depends where you are stopping (shore power...
1kW heater takes about 75 amps at 13 volts.
My Aus FG649 alternator seems to manage about 45-50 amps to house battery when stationary. I don't know what the spec is.
In Aus alternator gets hot when operated at limit. Possibly not a problem in Vancouver winter but it will be stressed.
Any...
if disconnecting with spanner then negative first. If positive first there is possibility of touching chassis with spanner.
by convention I place all switches in positive wires.
Fuses in solar panel wires can be a source of long discussion. The panels are a current source, its unlikely a fuse...
So questions to all good people with electrical knowledge and experience:
1) is there implication if the batteries are charged from Alt and solar panels at the same time when driving?
No. The volts at the battery will be the higher of solar regulator or alternator.
2) is earth connection of VSR...
there would have been no need to bleed the brakes, the back plate for the drums can be held out of the way with "a bit of string". But they would have needed adjusting. May also be a bit of oil or grease if they were really clumsy. If you cure the pull to the left I'd like to know how, I need to...
turning drive shaft one way freely and locking the other way is not normal.
To replace the camber kit (eccentric king pin bearing holder) I had to take hub to pieces and remove the half shaft.
They are "easy" to dismantle. Don't even need to remove the wheel. The workshop manual is useful...
I forgot that bit - my front drive shaft needed rebuilding and had a vibration at anything above 20km/hr. 4wd on corrugations is also marginaly more comfortable and much more controlled.
Philosophically I started with the notion that 4wd was there to get me out of trouble. In reality the...
thanks. I came back a bit crook, just finished rebuild (repair of sub-frame after it cracked in Mongolia so everything dismantled) and set off on a trip yesterday.
nothing is ever essential, however, lots of things are useful, like 4wd. Extra clearance and entry/exit angles more useful. The exhaust retarder was really useful (don't leave home without one).
Our "expedition" was 34 countries from Malaysia to Europe and back. The 5km of "difficult dunes" in...
I generally try to avoid posts/posters that cross the line between useful interesting information and marketing or promotion. In the context of this thread I rarely look because I interpret many posts as having the hallmark of product placement (google it if you aren't aware).
