This spot I think is called the tank traps, all the trucks except two had one or two tires in the air, without lockers and a good line you wont make it through unless some strategic rock stacking is done as you can see others have done.
Like I said it is a tight trail, some spots the cab...
Well maybe there will be a sixth set for you to test out as you would be one of the best testers out there looking from the pictures you posted from previous trips! Kudos to Alan for doing this too, thats confidence!
A little progressive picture taking on these, I think this was just a tight spot to get through on this as I dont remember any obstacle and cant see one here? The whole trail was really tight and pretty much a jeep size trail, bigger vehicles have done the trail but the trees take a beating...
The three dogs on the trip.
It was dry and dusty, eventually we called it the "Dust Bowl" trip, this Dodge stirred up the dust with the rad fan,
massive clouds of dust from this truck.
Just recently got some pics from a trip I did several years back, the trail is called the Whipsaw trail and has some notoriety and is graded here on the Portal: http://expeditionportal.com/overlandroutes/index.php/Whipsaw_Trail
I will post a few pics every once in a while.
Staging. Airing...
Darrin Fink used to build Fuso based rigs and started up a company called RUF, there are several of these trucks on the portal and I am not really sure if he still deals with them as my purchase was some time ago now, 4 years or so, I do not have his number right now but maybe someone that reads...
Chosen, thanks for the comments,
we have done a few long drive trips but really the method that we travel is to go slow meandering our way to the next stop, that is not to say that we never do long runs but we do try to avoid them. With that said on those longer runs we find it not too...
I would say that the best box will be a steel one, from having a mixed bag of boxes ie. cheap aluminum, expensive aluminum and a steel box I find that the steel one is the most solid, strongest and can take the most punishment. My aluminum boxes are not as rigid and feel a little wobbly. The...
It seems to me to come down to personal preference, in these two images I really like the maple, thats my preference, and I shy away from the industrial, commercial sterile ambulance look. My interior walls are all white so having the wood richens the interior and feels more comforting, but...
Maybe consider the overall feel, what I mean by that is aluminum can be cold as in to the touch and also to the ambiance of the inside of the camper. Wood provides a warm soothing look and feel to the inside and will feel less commercial or industrial. In some cases condensation will also...
Welcome to the forum, I dont have much to add other than a comment about how your water tank is mounted, it looks like there are strips of plywood holding it up?? Water is heavy and in a tank it will get moving and have some considerable momentum, if that is what I see maybe some beefing...
I posted this picture a while back along with a few more on the FG's in Action thread, this truck has two forward facing seats right behind the cab with doors each side, talking to the firemen a simple pass through for communication was all they would like to add.
This seemed like a good spot...
Hi, thanks for the comment.
I took my truck to get it re leafed with a less rigid spring rate and different shocks, as a result the fellow re arched the main spring which he re used and had new secondary springs made, he put nylon friction reducers between the leaves and put on new shocks, it...
