I hear ya. The PW should be plenty for what I want. After running 37s on jeeps and putting up with building the whole jeep around the tires to not fall apart, I think I’ll be content with 35s or a lighter, smaller 37 like a KO2 on the PW down the line. We’ll see. I’m sure the HD trucks are more...
Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t say I took that A drastic drift from what I originally stated. I was always weighing both gas and diesel. Re-evaluated is more like it. I drove quite a few trucks and like I said, the diesels (I favored the Cummins over the Powerstroke) drove great. The ram 2500...
Jhmoore- this looks like an amazing trip! Great details and even better pics. I’m planning a similar one with focus on photography and was planning on the last week of Sept through the first two weeks of October this year in the same general areas as you. What dates were you there? Looks like...
Thanks. I definitely don’t have any brand loyalty, and really like a lot of things about the fords. I couldn’t find a 6.2/4.30 geared f250 anywhere even sort of close to me to test out after running what seemed like hundreds of vin #’s and window stickers. And getting the ford would still leave...
Thanks guys. It’ll definitely get used. I’m going to start shopping around for a cap so I can start camping out of it with some short trips. And I’m planning a 3 week trip out west late Sept into Oct of this year to really put it to use.
OP again- figured I’d follow up on what all this led to. There was a ton of good discussion about diesel ownership and ultimately I decided to stay with a gasser. The diesel was definitely tempting and I’m sure I’ll have one at some point, but it was never something I ‘needed’ right now. After...
Selling a lightly used Teraflex cargo rack. A couple light scuffs on it but nothing major at all. The one bar was removed to allow easier loading with a high mounting position in the jeep, but the parts are all there to put it back. The rack is solid and works great, but I just don’t need it...
Here in my area of NY, diesel is roughly 30-40 cents more than regular right now. Any truck I’m looking at is most likely going to be slightly used or certified pre owned. So that means two things that guys keep bringing up. First being the $9-10k upcharge for a diesel truck. Any truck that I’m...
I didn’t really mean off the line and definitely wasn’t testing 0-60 times. More when underway and moving along, the Cummins seemed to respond immediately to the gas pedal and accelerate quicker than the hemi. It just felt like the Cummins barely needed any help speeding up and pulled harder.
The diesels were very nice to drive. But the 3/4 ton trucks are just awesome in general. These were my first experiences driving diesels, and I'm definitely still taking all the pros and cons into consideration. I'd like to drive an F250 with the 6.2 next but trying to find one with the 4.30...
OP checking in...
This thread has gone a bunch of different directions lol. Anyway, I've driven three Ram 2500 trucks all with the cummins/3.42, an f250 powerstroke/3.55, and a Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi/3.73 gears. The cummins was A BLAST to drive. I had to keep backing off the gas more than...
OP here. This thread has gone way beyond what I expected- in a good way. There has been a ton of good info on running a diesel, and some that I honestly didn't consider. I still think it would be a good fit for me but some things definitely need to be thought about. Thanks again for the wealth...
The second beater car is an option but only to save wear and tire items like expensive tires. I don’t think it makes financial sense even if it’s something cheap. After insurance and gas, not mentioning initial buying cost, it’s a wash aside from just putting that extra cash into the primary...
I definitely do just want a new vehicle/build. I do know that the full size truck would be much more comfortable for the commute and long road trips. I don't think anyone that has owned jeeps would argue that. I would more than likely pick up a cheap commuter car in the not so distant future too...
