A couple updates:
- Steering box is mounted in place, high and low pressure lines are hooked up to the pump, steering shaft connected to steering wheel and pitman arm in its final place.
- Track bar bracket built, additional gusseting still to come.
- 40 gal fuel tank arrived from our...
We changed gears for a few days and did a test fit of our prototype Transit overhead shelf. There is a lot of unused space above the driver and passenger seats on these high roof vans. This simple shelf bolts in easily for extra storage space.
The factory overhead console shook around a lot...
Roller!!
Still a ton to do, but we like where this is going.
Front end will come down a little with the correct spring rate and fenders will be trimmed. Front axle is pushed forward 1" and rear back 1"
Steering box is in the final resting place. We are waiting for a tie rod end reamer to show up to modify the WJ pitman arm to match the super duty taper. When the TRE set properly into the pitman arm, the track bar bracket will be built at the correct height.
Back from Thanksgiving break. Frame is being built back up and room for the steering box is made. UPS delivered the Advance Adapters 3:1 divorced transfer case and 10" travel Fox 2.5" shocks with DSC adjusters.
Made a decision on the steering box. The box we thought was a Toyota turned out to be a Jeep WJ box.
Rob opened up the chassis to make room for the box, coil bucket and shock mount. The plan is to make a mostly bench welded bracket that keys into the frame for production. We have to create...
The exhaust and evap canister were removed to tack weld the radius arms mounts into position.
Big hurdle ahead is mounting a steering box to the inside of the frame rail. The steering gear needs to tuck in between a bunch of wires, intercooler piping and the engine cross member. It is going...
Rob made the radius arm mounts today. Cut from 3/16" on our plasma table.
The mounts will weld directly to the frame. There are holes added for a future transfer case cross-member. These brackets will receive addition supports that tie further back along the Transit frame. Extra strength and...
I never had the stability control come on while carving quickly through twisty roads with the lift kit installed. I've only had it to come on while sliding around in the snow, but I was able to power though the brakes.
We are not worried about excessive body roll with the set up. The radius...
We spent the day getting the front axle set up correctly on the stand. Caster and for ride height set. Preliminary wheel travel is looking like 5" up, 5" down.
--> 35" tire shown on the front for ride height reference
--> We have partnered with BDS Suspension on this build. We are using...
Today we started the process. No turning back from here.
----> 4x4 Transit conversion with F350 super duty axles <------
Looking like it will be a 6-8" lift with 5" of up travel and we plan for 35" tires.
Variables so far:
We know the driver side catalytic converter and crossover pipe will...
We made some ARB 2500 awning hangers that attach to the factory crossbars. Dropped the awning down to the slider door level to make setting up the awing less of a hassle. Mounted one on each side of the van for trade shows and camping trips.
I got my galley butcher block top installed this weekend. We found the butcher block on amazon and had a local cnc router cabinet shop cut out the sink and cooktop openings. Water pump is wired up and plumed. Cooktop plumbing and grey water tank under the van will finish things off in the galley...
