Who's lining up to buy a 2023 Sequoia and NOT a 2022 Tundra?

ALL trucks with fold-flat 3rd rows use IRS of some sort; it's impossible to get a true fold-flat with a live axle that has to go up and down. Faux raised floors don't count (e.g. LC300, prev gen GM SUVs). For me, the first thing I'd do is rip out the 3rd row entirely, built a platform to match...

Airing Down a 2017 F350 SD, Diesel, Crew Cab, LB ?

Judge visually. Air down so that you lose roughly 1" of ride height, or visible slight bulge on sidewall. Are you sure your truck is only 7k lbs? I know the aluminum is lighter, but my buddy's bare bones 2007 supercab longbet is 8k. My old truck and camper weighs 9300 lbs combined, and I run...

What is the base vehicle for a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed?

Not to mention, the minute we put lifts, big tires, etc. onto our trucks, all manufacture ratings are technically void. We always hear the "if you crash, and you're 1 lb over GVWR, your house will be sued away". But no actual court case is ever quoted. Truth is, when we put on 37s and a 4inch...

What is the base vehicle for a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed?

I wrote to the transport guys in Victoria, and called just about every scale from Lower mainland to Prince George, no straight answer, but consensus is as long as you're registered for pleasure or commuting use, no need to pull into the scales. Case in point: nearly every new dually would exceed...

What is the base vehicle for a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed?

BC is an absolute MESS, and most cops outside of CVSEs are confused themselves. If they wanted, CVSE can enforce both GVWR (only applies to light trucks), AND registered GVW (think GCWR). But if you have an RV, boat, horse, or "car trailer", it does not count towards registered GVW. I can have...

OBA - How much does an air tank help?

Air tank depends on how robust your compressor is - with an ARB twin, or twin Viair 480/485s, you gain some extra air in between tires, as the compressor continue to work. The extreme would be an Oasis or York, it'll probably fill a 5 Gal tank to the max in between tires... On the other hand...

    The Status of Overlanding Today

Agree 100%. "Overlanding" has turned into a fad, deviating from the original spirit of over the land expeditions. Blame social media, consumerism, what have you. Back in the day (80s/90s), recreational off-roading and over the land exploration seemed fairly separate. These days, people strive...

On-board air solution for super singles

For people recommending airing up at a gas station, keep in mind when we're talking about ARB twin, 300L/min, and Oasis / engine driven compressors, most gas station units are SLOWER. Here's a typical unit: https://exceltiregauge.com/sc12-ss-air-machine/ If you have an MV50 or low end Viair...

    Air Compressor Data FYI

According to: https://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/Puma-PD1006-Air-Compressor/p13972.html It's 1.36 CFM @ 90 psi, and 3.3 CFM @ 40 psi. I believe the 90 psi rating is a little inflated, and the 40 psi rating is VERY inflated. I have both the Puma and Viair 440P. The Viair does 1.44 CFM @ 90...

    Air Compressor Data FYI

Not at all - some compressors are "geared" towards high psi performance, and some low psi performance. Sort of like a truck in 4Lo vs 4Hi, sort of... Look at the ExtremeAir Mag vs twin Viair 485 - at 100 psi the Viars nearly puts out equal CFM, but at HALF the amount of amps. But at 0 psi open...

    Truck Weight and Tire Limit

What is the size of the tire? All modern 17" tires are artificially limited to 3195 lbs. Some, like a 265/70r17E, truly were 3195 to begin with. Others, like a 37x13.5r17, E range @65psi, once had a 4,300 lbs rating. If you happen to have the latter, or 35x12.5, you have plenty of real...

On-board air solution for super singles

If the OP feels an Oasis is too slow, none of the recommendations would work. ARB twin, dual Viair, Puma, ExetremeAire are significantly slower. Even the most powerful 110V is slower. OP - do you really need a 365/80 @ 95 psi? That's 16500 lbs axle weight! If so, then the minimum air down...

    Tire Air Compressor?????

With that much power you can run any 120V, and even most 240V compressors! Your choice may be more based on - how much weight you want to carry? At 120V, few can beat a Makita MAC5200. 6.5 CFM @ 90psi. It'll probably air up your 35s in 2 min at most. But it does weigh 90 lbs.

    VK56VD vs the "competition"

I don't think you're picking fair opponents! The Jeep HEMI is neutered, if you plot the truck version it'll be much close @ 395 hp. Another thing to factor in is weight and cost. The pushrod V8s are very compact. VK56VD weighs the same as the iron Hemi, and is physically larger by a bit. The...

    GMT900 Overland build anyone?

Another vote for the 2500, almost the perfect overlanding platform. Not as sexy as a Defender 110 or LC70, but just as tough and as much payload. Not quite as capable in technical offroading, but we're talking about overlanding after all.

    Improve Chevy Express Offroad Performance

As 1stDeuce mentioned, airing down (further) will make a huge difference. Try that before spending $$$ on custom suspension. My 9500 lbs truck/camper combo on 265/75/16 on require 30 psi off road. That's 5400 lbs on rear axle. I bet your van is lighter, try 25 or even 20 psi depending on tires...

    Tire load range and pressures

An SL tire @ 35 psi carries more weight than an equal size E-rated @ 35 psi. The best is to look up what your OEM tires carry @ 35 psi, then on Nitromethane's table, find an E-rated size that carries the same load @ 35 psi. You may have to upsize, which you plan on doing regardlesss. I'd guess...

    Gassers: Ram 3500 6.4L vs Ford's F350's 6.2 and 7.3 Godzilla for overlanding

Now that Ram finally has an 8 speed, for real overland use the powertrain itself is not even a factor. They only become important towing a 10k lbs travel trailer. Tailor your choice based on which chassis you want, and just take whichever motor comes with it. They're all very good, and miles...

    2022 Nissan Frontier unveiled

Do you know if your fan shroud covers the intercooler? It's possible they left it ambient air cooled so in case of a fan failure there won't be high intake temp.
