I'm still in Baja sitting on a beach north of Loreto but I figured some planning of doing this trip may want to take a look at our route So, here is the Google Map link to our trip - enjoy

I believe it's the Volkswagen Amarok with a diesel engine - gnel brought it up from Mexico. The VW has great milage as I only saw it being filled once maybe twice for the whole trip.
You can delete and then reload maps to see if that helps. Also, remember that there are two applications on the Overlander each with different functionality. The "Drive" application is for auto-routing and the "Explore" application is for track navigation and route creation. The two applications...
The updare process in 2019 toasted my first Overlander. Garmin said they would replace the unit if I mailed it in. I decided to just replace it via Amazon vs waiting on Garmin to get me a new unit. I’ve not had an update problem since those early days but every time I update it I hold my breath...
I rarely use a computer with the Overlander. I've used the Overlander to downloaded tracks from the web and loaded them for navigation while out in the middle of nowhere. And, if you don't have cellular coverage you can create a route on the Overlander that auto routes you to your destination. I...
Our backgrounds are similar - software development for 40 years; started using Garmin with the first hand handhelds back in '96 and have owned way too many over the years. I had the GPS II, I think the II Plus was released a year or two later. Before that I used a loran based navigation system...
I guess I've not seen all the problems you are experiencing with the Overlander. For example, I just created a route on the Overlander and it does show time and distance as well as navigates (not a straight line) the roads. I'm also able so see the contour lines of the US TOPO map. I can also...
My workflow is to export from Basecamp to the micro-SD card on the computer and then import that into the explore app on the Overlander. So, in theory going from Basecamp to the Micro-SD card via a Basecamp connection should be the same.
Either way it’s not as seamless as transfers to the...
I have used Basecamp for years and keep all my waypoints, tracks and routes there too. I connect the Overlander to Basecamp but only to get access to the recorded daily track logs. I did move a track from Basecamp to the Overlander but it would not import to the explore app. To get tracks and...
Yes we did. Spent a little over a week up in Jasper too. First few days we stayed at a hotel in town. Then we moved to one of the provincial parks before heading back to Banff. The Provincial parks are quite nice. They provide free firewood and hot showers.
The 2021 Tour Divide mountain bike race was won by Jay Petervary in 14 days, 19 hours and 14 minute. Someone in a vehicle should be able to do the 2700 miles in that time. I’ve done trips by myself where I rode all day long only stopping for an evening meal and sleep. At the time that was a...
I think the Canadian Rockies are the most scenic mountains in North America so driving the 260 miles from the border to Banff was well worth the effort. My wife and I ended up staying in Canada for 3 weeks before returning. We would have stayed longer but we had prior commitments back in...
