Poor quality/dirty fuel does cause carbon build up. Octane level does not equate to the quality or how dirty gas is...dirty gas is a factor of the refinery, the additives, the tanker its transported in, the tank at the station, etc.

Yeah, mine was just like yours when we first mounted it. Although vertical, the curve of the hatch made it look like it was actually tipping forward and I just wasn't feelin' that. So we took the band saw to it to shorten it up and add an angle to it that matched the body angle.
