To straight axle swap or not? Let's hear it.

I wouldn't do a SFA without going to coils. If that's within your expertise, definitely go for it! Otherwise, I'd stick with a standard subframe lift. I had an 85 I loved. Is the ZR2 still on torsion bars?

Recommendations for a semi DD that can double as an expo rig?

The cargo room in a Subaru is going to be a limiting factor. I'd look for something larger with the ability to securely mount things to the roof and with a real transfer case.

Why no SAS on "expo" type trucks???

It's not perfect, but I think when I replaced mine, they were like $6 each. Forward protection only is better than nothing.

Why no SAS on "expo" type trucks???

Polaris does it on their ATVs.

Why no SAS on "expo" type trucks???

I spent years wrenching on older rigs to keep them alive to avoiding newer IFS stuff. After 15 years an older Silverado and 5 years in a later-model Cherokee XJ, I went with an FJ Cruiser. It drives better on road, soaks up the bumps better offroad, offers better ground clearance, and hasn't...

Overland XJ Build. Not my first Rodeo.....(video included)

I too think that it's possible for the airbox will be in a vacuum, especially at WOT. This may turn the breather tubes into straws, sucking your ATF and 80w90 into the airbox. I'm also one who thinks no one else should tell you what to do with your build. Try it out. If it works, awesome...

Air Lockers vs. electric lockers vs. Cable lockers

I actually recommend full-time/auto lockers, like the Aussie or Lock Right. Why was that not an option? My FJ Cruiser is the first vehicle I've ever had with a selectable locker. It works great, but in the stock configuration, it can only be engaged in 4 low and it works best if you engage it...

    K.Ray's Lame Tacoma Build Thread

Sounds like a typical snorkel install to me... You might look into another snorkel head if you're not happy with what you've got. They are available separately from several manufacturers.

Overland XJ Build. Not my first Rodeo.....(video included)

Is that tank food grade for carrying potable water, or just for showering?

Overland XJ Build. Not my first Rodeo.....(video included)

That turned out great! 97-01s put the washer fluid bottle in the fender. That was why I ended up just doing a cowl snorkel.

    Coleman Stove Mod?

It will definitely work. Thanks! That's not all of the collection, just all I had handy when taking the pic. Always on the lookout for more. The hunt is the fun part. You start off looking for anything, then to what you want, then on to the rare stuff. Like with a lot of worthless junk, eBay...

Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

The biggest problem with the numbers people see is that they don't know the facts of how those numbers are derived. If the news tells you the number of "gun deaths," it includes suicides and the bad guys who were killed in the act. 2/3 of gun deaths are suicide. Most all other gun violence is...

    Coleman Stove Mod?

I wonder if you could swap in a pump from a modern Northstar? They don't have the thumb hole! I'll be working on getting an answer. I too am a fan of Coleman stuff. As for which fuel to use, Coleman fuel is best. The only additive is a rust inhibitor, which will protect your fount or...

Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

John Lott has already been mentioned, so I'll link you to these. The answers you seek are contained within. http://concealedguns.procon.org/sourcefiles/Kleckarmed.pdf http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts/7.0/gun-facts-7.0-screen.pdf Those with concealed handgun permits are one of the most...

Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

Your what-if scenarios are unsupported by the actual data and only serve to further diminish your spurious concepts about gun owners. We're here on forum discussing vehicle-based activity. Vehicles kill more people than guns. How many people are you trying to take keys from? Only a fool would...

Do you feel the need to be unarmed and defensless while camping?

You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. That is simply not true. Most law-abiding gun owners do everything they can to de-escalate any sensitive situation. Additionally, in the vast majority of cases, a victim simply presenting a firearm ends things. The attacker either...

In the market for a 'Burb

I've been out of building GM stuff for a long time. What's a 14-bolt FF go for these days? I paid $100 for mine in the early 2000s, and that included the yard pulling it out for me.

In the market for a 'Burb

I've got some more info on axles I can look up for you. Finding stuff online was still tricky when I started my build. I've got pages torn out of magazines and put in a binder. It's still out in the garage. I'll check it tomorrow to see what I have. If it's anything good, I'll send it your...

In the market for a 'Burb

I'm not a Burb guy per se but I had an 87 V-10 for about 15 years. Colorado K5 will be a wealth of information for you moving forward. Go ahead and order a catalog from LMC Truck if you haven't already. They have EVERYTHING. 87-91 on the Burbs are TBI injected. It's OBD1, so it can be a...
