Full Size Truck RTT Mounting Options

What kind of tent? If it's a fold-up, just upgrade the crossbars to something that will reach all the way across the bed rails. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Weighing my options for carrying extra fuel on an FJC

That's the best one I've seen yet, but $344 shipped for just the rack is way too much. That's before you even start adding in the Rotopax or their hardware. At that price, it should be with the tubing ends filled in and everything powder coated. I have gleaned a lot of ideas from the things...

Weighing my options for carrying extra fuel on an FJC

The aux tanks have too many issues for me. Low capacity is all I need. 5 gallons if I use a Jerry, 4 if I go Rotopax.

Part time living in a camper?

SD, I've got a buddy with A LOT of experience with doing exactly what you're talking about. I'll see if I can get him to drop in.

Weighing my options for carrying extra fuel on an FJC

I'd love to be able to carry a few gallons of fuel and have been looking at accessories to facilitate that. Please share any recommendations you might have. Below are my considerations so far, but these are certainly not the only options I'd entertain. I've got a 5 gallon Scepter can already...

    Most common things to break

I carried a number of parts in my XJ. I went a bit overboard, but I carried anything that could leave me dead in the water. The only thing I might have added was a spare alternator. I had: Serpentine belt, crank position sensor, cam shaft position sensor, replacement battery terminal, a spare...

    Not your everyday KJ

Great build! I often thought I should have gotten a KJ instead of an XJ.

I believe they come with an additional rain fly to further seal the roof.

What would you do to a YJ for a Cross US trip from East to West and back...

Check tire pressures and fluid levels. Despite access to professional tools, I do most of my work with the tools I travel with so, should the situation arise, I know how to work with what I have on board. It also helps me know what additions to make to my tool kit. I carry a spare crank position...

    Most common things to break

Depends on the vehicle. In my Silverado, I carried spare spider gears since that was what I'd broken before. Also had a spare tie rod u-bolted under the bed. In my Jeep, I carry a spare crank position sensor and cam shaft position sensor since either of those can render the vehicle inoperable...

    sleeping in a suv.

My wife and I sleep in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Slide both front seats all the way forward, remove the rear seat bottom, and construct a filler panel to level from the back floor over the footwell up to the front seats. It's cozy with two adults but very comfortable solo.

    2017 Wrangler to be Unibody...

It doesn't mean anything except you won't buy a body lift. Other than that, it will be like the old Cherokees. As long as it has solid axles, everything will be just fine.

Opinions On Old Trucks with New Engines?

I just recently sold an 87 Chevy V-10 I've had for 12 years. If you cannot perform the engine swap yourself, I would not buy an old truck. There will be too many other items that need work with that kind of mileage. Hub assemblies, ball joints, and steering components are common problems on...

Securing roof top tent against theft

Most people wouldn't know what it was, thus limiting the likelihood of anyone stealing it. If they can't use it or sell it, it's pretty safe. On the other hand, if someone truly wants to take it, they will. Are your wheels locked on? Locking gas cap? They could just bring a dolly or wrecker and...
