Stressed a lot about the habitat marriage to subframe - truck frame
Many alternatives of workflow
This work begins in three weeks
My final plan
Weld the perimeter subframe (with corner gussets). Lay it on the ground
Place six - 6 ton jacks around it . Use 8 ft 4x6 beams. Two beams font and...
The safer way from the alternator, is:
Buy 2nd lead acid battery, Use 1000 watt ac converter. Plug into the shore power outlet. (no alternator overheating)
My purchase price is $200 with the freight and controller
Dc-dc charging runs $700-$1000 if you protect alternator overheating correctly - (many folks ignore it)
Thanks for the comments. No pole for stationary use.
No second alternator. (too many problems - do a deep dive to discovery them)
Amp output is unknown. But this is free energy while driving.
Am I crazy or smart??
My bumper is mounted behind the rear storage box a few inches. There is a swing away spare tire carrier on that bumper. The tire is mounted close to the hinge, on the right side.
Due to the mounting position of the bumper, on the left side, is a space 18 inches deep by 12...
My new habit has 55mm composite walls and ceiling. I'm trying to understand the heat retention. The heater is a propane based Truma.
To the best of my knowledge is is a four seasons design with all water tanks and plumbing inside the composite container.
I have dual pane windows.
When I consider all this there was a great option for the habitat. A used reefer box. I have the brand and looked at a few under $5k, 16ft long. They had 4 " of insulation in all surfaces from the factory. Many brands did not work due to rear door. But one did.
They were used for cold storage...
Note: C-channel is so much cheaper than steel tube.
This is very strong for subframe construction
The outer flat surface is great for spring bracket mounting
Cutting scrap 2 x 2 x 1/4 tube with 45 degree ends makes great gussets for c-channel connections
We had the scrap tube from bumper...
Just watched video whereas the Earthroamer had a $10,000 roadside breakdown ($2000 tow, $8000 repair)
I've seen LMTV's with big money roadside breakdowns
When choosing my rig all these were considerations.
This rig should cost after 4x4 conversion with warranty , 60% less than a Rossmonster Baja.
And a MUCH smaller turning radius
I'm guessing 20 inch's shorter in length.
