Hold my Coffee ! another manual transmission swap thread

Hope you don't mind me using your thread for a question. It's a "what would you do" type thing. I bought a complete running van to get the M5OD out of with driveshaft, axle, pedals, column, etc. I drove it about 200 miles home without much issue. The trans needs shift bushings and an oil change...

Hold my Coffee ! another manual transmission swap thread

Put a 4L80E in a buddy's van kinda creatively. We were south of the border and had no tools and even less cash. Built cradles out of all-thread and angle iron. The angle went under the trans and a threaded rod went on each end. Drilled holes in the floor and slid the rods through then used...

Hold my Coffee ! another manual transmission swap thread

I've done roadside engine swaps, transmission swaps, driveshafts...can't recall replacing a solid-axle but I've done CV shafts. A floor jack can substitute for a real transmission jack and ratchet straps can even work in a pinch. Dropping the tire pressure can make a short jack taller. A big...

    1990 Ford E-250 Quigley

I love my quiet, efficient 300 torque maker too. That intake probably says Offenhauser btw. I've helped swap those and Clifford intakes in. A buddy has an 84 F150 4x4 with the 300, Offy intake, Holley vacuum secondary 390(?) cfm and a 4 speed, 3.55 axles, 32" mud tires, big winch bumper up...

    Real MPGs for your rig?

That E4OD you're considering with 3.54s and 245/70-16s is very very similar to my plan of an M5OD and 3.55s with my 225/75-16s. I'll turn a bit more RPM with my .80 OD vs your. 71. At 70 mph I'll be at 2,281 and you'll be at 2,004. Bet you'll be around 19 mpg hwy and 15 or so in town. If I ever...

Roxanne, the Van of Many Lovers (1989 Ford Club Wagon XLT E250) Build Thread

Probably your idle air control valve. It's a solenoid valve that allows air to bypass the closed throttle blades. A solenoid opens it and a spring closes it. They get sticky and hang shut (stall) or open (high idle). They're about $30 to replace or can be cleaned with carb spray, pipe cleaners...

    2000 Ford 7.3L Motovan build (225's build cont'd)

The fan clutch threads onto the water pump. The nut is between the clutch and the pump. What's so strange about that? It's where they're all located. Also, it's a fan clutch, as in a clutch to disengage the fan, not a clutch fan, which would be a fan to cool the clutch.

Probably meant water storage tanks i.e. fresh, gray, black, not fuel tanks.

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

There's your mistake. You expected someone else to do your research.

    Real MPGs for your rig?

~$300 (about one of those 'payment' thingies) can add both to any vehicle.

Project Little Van - Daily Vanagon/Adventure Rig

Looks like a worm gear winch so it's self-braking in either direction. Should work a treat.

    Ford 460 Engine Mods????

Why would long tube headers from a mini-truck be a good fit for a van? Especially considering a 460 was never offered in a Ranger.

    Ford 460 Engine Mods????

A 670cfm carb on a 460ci engine? Might be a BAD idea depending on elevation.
