I just set mine in a front window with a blanket draped around it for now but I plan to make a replacement for my driver's-side rear window out steel to function as an AC bracket and cage.
I don't think the low mount option would work for me because cold air won't rise I'd rather make or have...
A) since when does having a generator make someone an idiot?
B) no bugs OR humidity where you camp i guess? I have and use screened windows but not doors.
I'm in Arkansas. 90° and 90% humidity lasts about 5 months a year with another 2 months hotter and still another 2 months just as humid but cooler. AC is a MUST if I am camping in the van here between March and November. A tent is more tolerable and sleeping in the penthouse is usually great but...
Actually got the idea from a guy, HoboTech, on YouTube who lives in a van and has a built-in 4kw Onan. He uses the 1kw Sportsman to be quieter and save fuel.
I'm not the first to do it but I haven't seen it here. Lot of YouTube videos about this setup. 5k BTU window AC with manual controls, no digital stuff, no remote. 1kw Buffalo Tools Sportsman Generator. Both can be had for ~$300 total. Works GREAT even in econo mode. Running mine at home today...
Once used the belt-driven vacuum pump on a PSD to evacuate its own AC system after a failed (read: the cap was left off and it got damaged/full of crap) Schrader valve released the 134a. Used the valve core from a bicycle tube. Hoses to the pump were a total cluster but sealing a vacuum is...
Ball joint press alternative: long bolt same diameter as hole in bushing, big washer that fits bolt and will pass through spring eye, nut that fits bolt, 2nd big washer as above, pipe or sockets that bushing will fit inside of with some extra space for both length and diameter. Assemble as...
A Ford Twin I Beam (2wd) or Twin Traction Beam (4wd) frontend's only uncorrected tire wear issue is camber change throughout its travel. It's a matter of spring rate mostly. My F350 wears the outer edge when empty and the inner edge when loaded heavily. It's a truck that moves 20,000 lbs of...
Sealed-beam. It's a beam and it's sealed. It didn't come from a sea animal or an Irish singer. If your van has plastic headlights (not glass) then you don't have sealed-beams. If you do have glass headlights, European housings with replaceable bulbs are what's been recommended here the most...
I just camped in my poptop in 20° F weather. Did it in the driveway to test an idea. I used CHEAP harbor freight moving blankets as insulation. I hung them inside the penthouse walls like double-layer canvas walls. They fit with the top down. Made a BIG difference. I'd say 50% warmer overall AT...
Portable campfires like that I've seen use an adjustable regulator like fish cookers. That would just need a full pressure line from the tank to the regulator. Look at the extend-a-stay tee adapters.
Partner stoves run 27 psi regulators, not 17. Propex runs on 11" water column, not BAR. 11" WC is like .02 BAR. 11 BAR would be over ten times greater than the atmospheric air pressure on Earth at sea level.
Just run hardline from the tank through a tee and then to the partner regulator then...
OE installs typically place underbody propane tanks just aft of the driver's door (LHD). Most OE van exhaust systems are next to the passenger framerail with passenger side outlet(s). No interference in that case. Likely why specs are scarce, no need.
